Just got back from my dealer a little while ago. They were really pissed. All along, we on the internet have been discussing the 06 models and the catalytic converters that were rumored for 06. Apparently the MoCo had told their dealers nothing. We knew more than they did. My dealership has sold numerous 06's already and had scheduled the bikes in for their 1000 mile check to install stage 1 and exhaust upgrades. On Thursday the dealer rep shows up and tells my dealer that they can not install any...Screamin Eagle exhaust upgrades or stage 1 upgrades. The rep explains that it involves a $10,000 fine to any tech that changes any of the epa settings or modifies or removes the catalytic converter which is housed in the exhaust system.
The dealers just got back from their dealer meeting in Denver 2 or 3 weeks ago. They attended numerous seminars about the new bikes and new models and not one thing was mentioned about not being able to upgrade 06's. My dealer told me that the word "catalytic converter" was not even mentioned at the dealer meeting. The MoCo is acting like this is some kind of big secret or something. My dealer is pissed because they misrepresented to their customers what modifications can be made. Several people have backed out of their deals.
Guess they won't have any problems getting rid of the left over 05 models.
What's up man. What are you doing home on your computer on a day like this[&:]. Just got home a little while ago from a nice little ride. Got Lisa a "Big Butt Harley Momma Seat" off of Ebay (Stock 05 Ultra take off) last week and she wanted to try it out. Can't blame here for wanting something different since she always felt bad about losing her nice big seat when I got rid of the Ultra a few years ago. She just loves the big cushy seat.
Yes, I imagine all Harley dealers are a little worried about how the 06's are going to see.......although they seem to be screaming out of the showrooms.
We only did 300 today by 4:00 P.M.
Up this way, the weather peeps were callin' for 80% rain so we went south
to Litchfield and it was very sunny and hot.
Got home and it was very cloudy but never did rain
I guess this shows why it is important to be able to work on your bike, do the mods yourself and save the money the dealer would have charged you. Save the original parts in the event you need warranty work so if you have to you can change it back if the dealer won't service it in a modified state.
Some Japanese sport bikes have been coming with catalytic converters for a while now, some people have punched them right out of the mid pipe with a screwdriver.
Apearently you dealer isn't paying attention, maybe if it had $$$$$$$$ attached he would!
There has been a set of "active exaust" mufflers on the Harley website since at least May. They are listed as "catlyst", I'm sure they were made for the '06s. I don't know about the stage 1, but the mufflers come with a module. Yea....they cost more than SEIIs but less than Bassanis.
The times they are a changing, but, technology will change too, look at the HP in some of the newer cars, and they all have catylsts.
The Twin Cam itself is more advanced that the Evo it replaced, I'm gettiing more HP with just an air cleaner and remap on the twin cam than I did with a Mikuni, S.E. module and a set of Supertraps on my Evo and getting similar fuel mileage.
I'm sure there will be a learning curve but, It will be shorter than it was with the automotive industry as the technology is already available.
And as far as catylst equipped motorcycles you can add BMW Triumph and Ducati, all preformanced motorcycles.
So.....hey.......it ain't all bad!
I was just at Latus H-D today and a guy was loading up his brand new 06 Street Glide and the dealer had put on a set of Rineharts for him. It looked and sounded GREAT! So, what's up? I wonder if ALL the dealers know about this? I hope my dealer doesn't find out until AFTER I get my new ride!
Your bike is not an 06. You should have no problem with your rineharts. I have the 02 port also on my 2000 roadglide which I plugged (make sure you use some high temp silicone sealer to keep it from backing out). As far as the previous post ref the new exhaust with the cataylitic converter is concerned....you are right. Harley will adjust with some new products. The problem is that the SEII's don't have the converter and as of this time the stage 1 download can't be used. I'm sure that there are modified 06 bikes on the road as we speak, but the dealers are just now being told of the fines and warranty problems.
I sure am a little more proud of my '05 EFI with Stage I and VH's. There's enough hassle in my life without more from MOCO. I still believe they are somewhere at or near the top of their business cycle. There's just a ton of HD's for sale out there and they aren't going to limit capacity having built new plants recently. FWIW.
