Default PCIII USB and 2007 Fat Boy mounting?

Where did you mount your PCIII USB (powercommander) on the 2007 fatboy. the directions say to mount over where the alarm is. I have the alarm and the Siren (which mounts above the alarm). Hence cant mount where DynoJet recommends.

Didn't it come with a deeper ECU tray?

I have an 06, so maybe its different...

We were given the option of by the siren or under the seat.

I'm not positive about this but when the dealer installed mine it appears they installed it behind the mud guard, at least that's where it looks like it is. I guess if I was more curious I would take the seat off and get a better look.

The new 2007 with the larger tires they no longer provide the tray [&:]

I guess they can't slide the ECM module down like they used to on 2006 and earlier (a nicer way to mount it).

Now they mount it behind the plastic mud guard in front of the rear wheel (mounted above where the Alarm module snaps in. you can see it if you look between your plastic mud guard from the side of the bike, taking off the seat wont help on the 2007 models as you cant see the unit from the top looking down. Hence its not easy to get to the USB port to do any programming. I am guessing it will take removing the mud guard to get to it for programming. anyway it looks like they didnt figure the Siren module mounts above the Alarm module! so that means where to mount the PCIII USB after that. my dealer moved it to zip tied to the cross bar of the frame that is right behind the mud guard (just in front of the rear wheel)

How much does the rear wheel section move toward the bike when the suspension is totally uncompressed (ie closest to the engine). I am worried that it will unload over a bump and crush the PCIII USB.

I don't think anyone from Dynojet ever really installed a PCIII on an 07 Softail. If they had, they would have known that the instructions won't work[:@]. It took me a while to figure it out but I have it at least where I'm satisfied that it won't rub against the mudguard. Here is how I did it if anyone cares:

Take the mudguard off first so you can get to things. The first picture is from the left side of the bike. I drilled a small hole in the plastic bracket that holds the alarm. A cable tie through the mounting lug on top of the PC and this hole holds one side in place. A cable tie through the bottom mounting lug on the other side of the PC and around what ever that is, holds the other side in place. See picture two, right side. For easy access for programming, just leave the USB connector plugged in and stow the cord beneath the seat. I hope this helps.

Edited to add pictures with the mudguard removed:

Good post GUNDOG, I installed mine the same way, I also used dielectric grease on the USB plug and taped over the top of the unit..

I just worked on mine 10 mins ago. The mechanic zip tied the PCIII USB upside down to the cross bar where the mudgard hooks at the top. its the cross bar part of the frame. NOT happy on where they mounted it as its lose and I am sure it willl get lots of vibration. I am going to get some thin foam to mount to the backside of the PCIII USB and zip tie it above the Siren and slightly above the alarm. I have the alarm and the Siren. the Siren is what actually snaps into the mounting bracked that GUNDOG used, so I can not mount in the same place.

I also found when I connected up my laptop that the dealer did not zero my throttle! it was at 6% when fully closed [:@]

next I zip tied the USB cable and fed it up under the driver seat. I zip tied the slack and tucked it under the factory connectors used for the ECM so it would get pinched. I can then just cut the zip tie and use rezip tie when needed.

I have the siren also. The PC is above the siren. Look at the picture closely.

Thanks! good to know. I will have the dealer move it since I paid him to install it originally. I could do it myself I think after reading your post but will let them do it instead.

What is everyone putting around the USB pluged-in cable at the PCIII USB to keep it water proof?

Well had the dealer move the PCIII USB to where it should be [sm=exactly.gif]

They didnt want to drill the bracket as it was too hard to reach and they didnt want to scratch the bike with the drill. Also they figured there wasnt much there left to hold onto if you drilled it (too close to the edge of the alarm bracket). They did find 3 points to zip it down to (its not straight and pretty) but its secure up against the wiring bundle infront of the alarm and above the Siren. they used the 3 of the 4 corners of the PCIII to zip tie to...

Gundog - THANKS ALOT for the pictures and the ones you IM me as well. I just said here do this. They found out that when another Tech installed the alarm to get the PCIII to fit the second time (when they installed the Siren) they flipped the alarm around to get it mounted and it actually affected it being detected by the ECM on the bike. even though the alarm was still working (Strange).. so it was good, that I brought in for them to move it. after they fixed the alarm and remounted it, I had them put some Diaelectric grease around the USB plug to keep the water out. so all is good.

I just found out Bob Shovelhead from here was the FIRST tech who installed it. He said it was installed in the correct spot [sm=biker.gif] but the SECOND tech who installed my Siren (arrived later) had moved it ... I am just glad its in the spot it currently is now and zipped in nice and tight. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]
