16'' or 18" ape hangers on a road king with a windshield? pics?
im buying apes tomorrow but im having trouble deciding between 16 and 18s. i usually ride 50% with a windshield. i am 6"2 and probably going to by wild one chubbies. HCC has some bars exactly the same as the wild ones but less pullback? any opinions or pics would be helpful....
I'm 6' and have the 16" I would get the 18"s if i was you. I wished I would've gotten the 18" bars. The crappy cell phone pic in my sig is all i've got for pics. It looks as good as it ever did with a windshield.
I have a 06 RKC. I installed the wild 1 16" apes. They work great for me. I would recommend you test to see where you want your grips at. If you have changed your seat this can change the hieght of the bar you need also. I placed my bike on a lift. Sat in the normal riding position, closed my eyes and placed my hands out where I wanted my grips. Had my wife basically mark where I placed my hands. I did this three times. Then I measured the distance I would need for the rise. The stock windshield almost touches the bars where I have them adjusted. If I had gone to the 18" the bars would be a little too high for the wind shield. Total cost was about $550 to do it myself. The big cost was the braided brake lines, go figure. I believe the 18" bars will be illegal in some states. Don't quote me but you may want to check.
thanks guys. i wish i could find a pic of someone here close to my height with the 18s SITTING ON THE BIKE. i know the 16s would be fine, however the 5"11 guys here love theyre 16s but im 3 inches taller than them.
i think im gonna go with 18s. im taller than most of the guys that wish they would have gotten the 18s. thanks for the pic. anybody have pics sitting on the bike??????
Now I'm thinkin 16 cause I have a short smoke SE windshield and from another pic I saw you can put the bars pretty far forward with that shield. And the further forward is a long reach with 18s
