Just my opinion, but a black bike has been cool for a long time. I had a '66 Bonniville in all black back in the late '70's. It got a lot of attention.
If it's now a fad, I think it's one that's here to stay.
The fad that is on it's way out in my opinion is all the gothic carry-overs from years gone by. Yes, people are still buying skulls, flames and iron crosses, but they aren't for me. Whatever color combo you go with, the cool theme is "motorcycle".
Some blacked out look better than others. Contrast is also important, front to rear there should be even distribution.
Personally, I did not want another black bike, I have had several before. I wanted something different that when it was in a crowd, it stood out, not the same as every one else.
I like my bike, I do not care if any one else does or does not. It is my bike, bought and paid for.
If it makes you happy, it is your canvas, make it your own.
