I have the same problem on my 98 Fatboy. Did you ever figure out what was wrong?

Odds are the speedo itself is shot. Electronics ............ works or it doesn't.

how charged is the battery? I've had that happen on 2 kawis I've had in the past. it ended up being a bad battery. at idle it was fine but otherwise it would just jump around the whole time. just another thing to look at.

Battery is on a tender fully charged. I took the dash off and took it in the house to check it out and let it warm up. Put it back on the next day and the odometer works. I assume the speedo does also but with the snow and it being about 19 degrees outside here in CT I have not tested it yet.

If it works intermitantly and connections are good, I still say the speedo is no good.

I think you may be right. It seems to be a temperature issue though.

Makes no difference, unless your just going to ride on the days it works.
