Default Lowering and custom wheels

I currently have a 21" front, and 18" rear. My rear is an 18x5.5 with a 180x55r 18 tire. My bike is a 13' street glide.

I have NOT lowered the bike yet, but have purchased a lowering kit, and before I install, I want to hear anyone's experience that has lowered with this combo.

Wanaryd website states the outer diameter of the rear 18 is the same last my stock 16" rear with stock tire.

Anyone have any hints for me? I ride 2 up about 50% of my time....

Thanks in advance.......

I lower everything I own. Cars, trucks, and bikes. Cause I like it. You haven't said what "kit" you bought. That matters. Most any kit will cost you ride quality and cornering. Not all, but most. Especially the cheap ones. I am happy to make sacrifices for style. What kit did you buy?

If you lower it 1 inch, expect to bottom out riding 2 up from time to time. More than 1" will be a problem.

I run with Bitchin bagger rear shocks lowered 1.5" and never bottomed out on 2 coast to coast trips 2Up+luggage (just keep your air pressure up)
Now my front is a different matter, 23" with Progressive lowering kit (1") and stiffer oil, only got a max of 2" travel and dinged fender a few times, time for some bumpstops .

i got the burly slammer kit ( I know, not the best). I'm lowering for looks, I'm not a tourer, but more of a bar hopper. My wife isn't heavy.... she's thin. I had considered buying the 16" rear version of my mammoth spoke wheel, and just lowering the front 1.5 inches. I love the feel of the 21/18 combo now, just want to take the sky high look out of it.

I don't know if the Slammer will work with an 18 rear. It drops the rear down to 10.5 inches with barely one inch travel. Your fine with the front. The drop in front kit is adjustable in height and you can add heavier oil if you do the full two inch drop. I have the drop in kit in my bike set at 1 1/4 drop. I would just install the rear shocks, set them on the second to tightest setting, and give them a shot. If the tire hits, sell them and get a little bit longer shock. Just don't expect a nice ride. Those slammers ride tight and rough, but many people use the kit. I installed it on my wifes sporty this summer. She's happy, and it was needed to get the bike how she wanted.

Edit: remember, with that kit you need to address the kickstand or the bike will fall over. Also, be prepared to scrape the **** out of parts in turns. And not just sharp turns...... any turns, lol. But hey, its what we put up with in the name of style!

with the added height of my wheel combo, particularly with the 21 front, i think i may be good with scraping...... and as far as the side stand goes, it looks like it leans over too far right now..... i was hoping the lowering kit would put it where it was at stock???

ok, all good advice, thanks guys

You may have been a good candidate for a rear air ride set up.

thought of buying one, there was a recent ad in the classifieds here on the forum for an arnott.

Instead, I ordered a 16" rear mammoth spoke last night, gonna put a whitewall on there, and just drop the bike with the slammer kit. I should NOT rub with the stock rear size. I am deployed right now, been saving some money for my hobby while I'm out here. Almost home now, so I'm gathering parts I want to set me up for the summer riding season.

Thanks for all the advice fellas..... can anyone recommend a side stand conversion kit, or brand?
