OK, Bill, this one's for you. No set up here, no messin' around (this time), just a question for a HD expert.

What do you think of 20w-50 Amsoil motorcycle oil? Just interested in your learned opinion. More fun and controversy later.

Howl,

Wolf

OK, no answer is an answer. One voodoo spell for Bill. Sorry, too late pal.

I've run Amsoil, Mobil 1 V-twin and Syn3. Amsoil and Mobil 1 are pretty close in my book. I don't care for Syn3. I choose Mobil 1 because I can get it locally for $2-$3 a quart less than Amsoil.

When I changed fluids recently, I put HD Formula+ in the primary. Couldn't tell any difference between it and the Mobil 1 I'd previously used. Next change, I'll probably go back to Mobil 1 in the primary.

Just wondering what's not to like?
I ordered off web site, next morning UPS dropped at my door. Paid WAY less a qt than local bike shop ( 12.99 qt)
Just wondering if there's something to look out for.

Thanks

I don't like their marketing techniques, too pushy for me and their product does everything from doubling the mileage to longer wear on the tires. Just grates on my nerves after a while. It's OK to advertise a product but not to try to ram it down everybodies throat IMO.

Geez $12.99 a quart, I think anything would be better priced than that price. That sounds a bit high to me for any oil.

I put Amsoil in my EG last year, engine with filter, trans and primary. It shifts quieter and easier. I rode to Sturgis 4000 mi round trip. My friends all changed their oil out there, I didn't. I rode it the rest of the year no oil change. I took it apart this winter to bore it to 95 inch. I see no ill effects, everything clean etc, so I will put it back in after the break in period of the new parts. I was a dealer in the 70's but let it go as I couldn't be bothered. I still believe the product is excellent, so now I just buy it online.

Hope this helps

Rick

CANTDR55,
If you're going to continue to use AMSOIL, I recommend you become a "Preferred Customer". You'll get cheaper rates that way. Depending on the weight I typically pay about $6.25 a qt. Go to their web site and apply. It's a $20.00 a year membership. I use it in all my vehicles. Don't do the "Dealer" application.

Thanks for info about preferred customer.

Just to clear up, local bike shop sells it for 12.99qt. Not what I paid for online

Online I think it was 7 bucks? still a good price.

Wolf,

There are a few Independent tests that has Amsoil at or close to the top in most critical performance measurement. I've used it in the past but the marketing and garage distributiuon irks me.

Been using Mobile one MX4T or V-twin for 4-5 years but would not hesitate to use Amsoil is it were easier for me to get. Just my pennies.

James
