GAS GAUGE

I have a 1988 FXR.&nbsp\\; My gas gauge does not work.&nbsp\\; It has a new gas gauge.&nbsp\\; How can I test the gauge and sending unit to see if it works.&nbsp\\; I am kind of a novice when it comes to electrical problems.&nbsp\\; Any help would be appreciated..
