I'm a new owner of a '01 FXSTC (88B), and a do it yourselfer.
1) Where is the drain plug for the crankcase oil?
A: Look under the oil tank, where the shocks mount; there is a 5/8 bolt there for draining the oil..... 3 qts.
2) Ditto for the tranny? How much oil?
On the tranny case between the shocks, there is another 5/8 bolt for draining the gear oil. Here's a tip: Break the bolt loose, then remove it by hand; if you try to remove it with a socket (long or short), you won't be able to remove either, and you'll make a mess.....20-24 oz; there should be a dipstick.
3) Ditto for the primary? Under the primary cover towards the rear, there is a 1/8" pipe plug. Remove it to drain the primary gear oil. I'd suggest using teflon tape (sparingly)....268 oz.
FYI, I'm a big fan of Amsoil (20W50 and 75W90 for the tranny/primary). As a long time engine/tranny builder, I do not subscribe to the "use 20W50 in all holes" theory. Do what you feel is best ; )

Don't have a Softtail, so can't answer your questions on your two particular bolts, someone will be along shortly that can...
Manual deals...I ended up just paying the $50 for mine at the HD shop. Cheap compared to the $125+ I've paid for all my car manuals...and you know it's the factory manual. I would try Ebay or Amazon for the manual...sometimes you get lucky.
N2x1n8n, dude don't pull that plug in the bottom of your crankcase, there's a plug in the frame under the oil tank,that's where you will drain the oil,as for 20w-50 in the trans you will get differnt answer's from differnt people like me I run Mobil1 Vtwin 20w-50 in all three hole's,why, because that's what my dealer said to run.

Look for a hose that comes from your oil tank to the bottom of the frame. That is wear you drain the oil. Do not drain the engine. Just the tank. You cant go wrong with a manual. I suggest a harley manual but i guess any will work for common maintanance. I have had problems with other manuals on cars- just dont trust them.
I am fixing to change the oil in my Fatboy '01 for the first time ( dealer did so in the past) and am a little confused by your post. How is it possible to get all of the oil out of the engine if you drain only the tank and not the crankcase? Also.....is the new oil added to the oil tank only?

Harley's are dry sump engines. No oil is stored in the engine. That's why they have an oil tank. Oil is only added to the tank.
Most other bikes are wet sump and the oil is added directly to the crankcase. No oil tank on 'em. Rule of thumb: Oil tank = dry sump. No oil tank = wet sump.
Spend the bucks and get a service manual.
