I use inexpensive 75W-90 gear oil, Lucas if I can find it. Otherwise, I just get what's on sale.

If anybody would like to order amsoil, just go to the amsoil.com website and put in my dealer # of 1244026 and you can get from there any product you want. If anybody has any questions, email me at vipersx04@aol.com, thank you.

I have an 04 Fatboy and could never find neutral at a long light when it's SoCal hot. Dumped
the Harley stuff and switched to Mobil 1 75-90; got an immediate improvement. Recently I saw
an ad in American Rider touting Golden Spectro 75-140 synthetic for Harley's. I couldn't find it
but did find Mobil 1 75-140 at Autozone at $19 a quart. At the same time I purchased Lucas pure
synthetic additive for $17 a quart. I mixed 18 oz. Mobil 1 75-140 with 4 oz. Lucas additive and
now experience the smoothest shifting Harley this side of backcut gears. Don't really know how
much the Lucas has to do with it, but since synthetic lasts so much longer, I just went for it based on the reputation the company's products have. NOW HERE'S THE BEST PART OF MY
STORY: Walmart carries 75-90 and 75-140 full synthetic under their house brand, Super Tech,
in the identical container that Mobil 1 comes in at one-half the price. Two cents worth from an
old retired phart with time to pick fly poop out of pepper.

I usually never post anything on here, but do read a lot. I have an 06 Heritage and have been using syn 3 in the trans. I converted it over at 1000 mile to syn 3. At 10,000 changed it and everything looked ok, just a few shavings, which I thought was normal. At 20,000 I changed again with a little more shavings. This isn't right. I would also like to say that finding neutral hasn't been the easiest to find either. I've switched to Amsoil 75-90 since and with just a few miles on it I can tell a difference. For me the syn 3 isn't good trans oil. I will say I cut my oil filter at every oil change and haven't seen anything there. I'm by far no expert on this, but I've been in racing for 40 yrs with drag racing and midgets and have a good idea on what I want from an oil. I now there's tons opinions on oil. This is a fact

I had tried the Redline Heavy....just didnt shift well in my bike. seemed harder and tough to hit neutral. Anyway, I dumped it and went back to Mobil1, found an immedeate improvement. Shifting great and hitting neutral is very easy. Between Redline, Amsoil and Mobil1, I like Mobil 1 the best.

I let the paranoia and common sense rule and dumped the Syn3 today with only 1500miles on it.  Never had a problem, yet,  but why wait.  Put in  the Amsoil 75w- 90 Severe.  Kicking myself in the butt for not taking a picture of the crap on the magplug and the camera was right there  in the tourpak.  I've made a note in the log to take a pic at the next oil change.  Anybody else doing that?  PS - For those in MN and other coldass places, we had a good day for riding and I did a 90 mile warmup ride prior to the change.  Sorry, just coukln't resist saying that

I am certain that the Redline Heavy Shockproof gear lube will perform the best in my transmission over dinosaur oil.  I would have no problem putting Mobil 1 gear lube in the transmission or the AMSOIL but, the Redline was given to me.
After researching this forum and many other oil testing websites that I got links to from this forum, I put Mobil 1 V-Twin in my bike Monday at 4200 miles.
The reason is more for availability over AMSOIL and Redline than any other.  I found that these three oils were superior in tests to other oils.  I would have put Redline 20W60 in the engine along with the Redline Shockproof that I put in my transmission if I had ordered the transmission lube but the Shockproof was given to me and I didn't have to order it.
I put Penzoil 10W40 in the primary because I think that's all it needs.  This is based on researching this forum for information about primary fluids and asking a question about heat of the primary affecting the oil.
I am certain that the synthetic oil in the engine will protect my engine vetter than dinosaur oil in the Louisiana summer heat that is on its way.

I just replaced the SYN 3 in my trans with RL Shockproof Heavy. I was wondering how often you Red Line users go between changes with it.

Thanks!

I haven't thought that far ahead yet.  I'm seriously considering the next 5,000 mile oil change will include transmission and primary.  I figure that it's only 8 or 9 dollars for the transmission and 2 or 3 dollars for the primary.  I'll be removing the clutch inspection cover to adjust the clutch anyway and I would like to inspect the magnet on the transmission drain plug for major shavings.

Dealer did the 1000 mile service in mine today, and on their recommendation I had Amsoil put in all three holes.
Transmission seems to whine louder in 5th with the new Amsoil than it did with the old stock oil with 1k miles on it.  Also now hear clatter in 6th that wasn't there with the stock oil.  Didn't see any difference in shifting- still loud & clunky, and it's no better at finding neutral with Amsoil in there either.

I'll be doing the 5000 mile oil change myself, and will likely go to Mobil 1 in all three holes just for the heck of it...

Just installed Mobil One 75w-140 gear oil in my 07' trans. No change in the noise level, but it shifts a bit smoother and neutral seems easier to find.

Just did a drain of syn3 from the transmission tonight.. about 750miles after the 1000 mile dealer service.  Couldn't believe the amount of small shavings around the magnet of the drain plug.. and checking the fluid before draining it was low at the top add mark. Drained all the syn3, looked clean..besides the shavings.  Cleaned off the drain plug of the shavings..took a while heh.. and cleaned off the pipe Teflon white gunk and inspected the rubber seal.  It was in good condition still after I cleaned it up a bit.  I put a little bit of Teflon tape back on and stuck it back in the transmission, torqued it to 14.5 in-lbs. I put almost a quart of Amsoil 75-90w gear oil in.  Put it back on the jiff and checked and added till it was perfectly at full on the stick.  Anyways its midnight here, and I have a ride tomorrow from 10am ...a Law Enforcement Memorial Ride.. its also a poker run and a rally after.  Really didn't have a transmission problem before but I had just bought a case of 20w-50  Amsoil oil and 2 bottles of 75-90w gear oil, so I thought I'd start replacing the syn3 shit.  No noise really.. unless I put on my windshield(I have only had it on once heh), besides the CLUNK of shifting to 1st..that it sometimes makes.  I will see if it makes a difference.  Hope so..

Just switched from Redline Shockproof heavy to Amsoil SG 75-140 in my 07 RKC , noticed easier shifting with no 5th gear whine ,  amazing! I had always run Amsoil SV 75-90 in my other bikes , but this stuff works magic in the 6 speed.

Has anyone heard anything about these two products.  The second (Mobile1 HD 80W) I posted because it seems that Redline notes that 80W is preferred for V-twin.  Any thoughts?

Redline: 80W Motorcycle Gear Oil with Shoc
New product designed for applications like two-stroke motocross bikes, shifter karts, the CRF 250 450 transmission. Used where an 80W oil is called for, ShockProof's microscopic solid medium provides cushioning between gear teeth, while maintaining lower drag
Reduces the thinning effect from high temperatures.

Provides the balanced slipperiness necessary for consistent shifting and proper wet-clutch operation.

Coming soon for the V-twin market, Big Twin Transmission Oil with Shockproof and Big Twin Primary Gear Oil!

Mobilube HD Plus 80W-90 is engineered for performance in heavy duty commercial transmissions, axles, and final drives where extreme pressures and shock loading are expected. It provides excellent chemical and thermal stability at elevated bulk oil temperatures, good performance at low temperatures, and has demonstrated good rust protection resulting from water contamination and wet conditions. Mobilube HD Plus 80W-90

Hondo, that is , roughly, the equivalent of 75-90 in gear oil terms but doesn't have the pressure resistance of true gear oil.  Motor oil and gear oils are rated differently in terms of weight.  What you're using may be fine but  that probably isn't due to its being thinner.
