Cold Blooded Fun: Harley-Davidson Ice Capades

Too cold to ride? Try telling that to these fun-loving hooligans.

Our friends over at RideApart recently turned us on to this video of Harley-Davidsons racing on ice. Most folks don’t think of Harley-Davidsons as high performance racing machines, and that’s especially true when it comes to the full-dresser touring models. Loud, slow, and heavy – that’s what they always say about us.

This Facebook video from Harley Davidson People shows that these bikes – and their riders – are pretty capable when they set their minds to it. We don’t have many details available about the venue, the bikes, or the riders themselves, but that doesn’t make this video any less entertaining.

There’s plenty of drag racing, donuts, drifting, and daring stunts in the video. Even with helmets on, you can just tell how happy these folks are. If riding on ice is half as much fun as it looks, then these folks must be having the time of their lives. We’ve lost track of how many times we’ve replayed this video. These riders can really control their machines!

Winter Fun on the Ice

Harley-Davidson owners are known to be fastidious about maintaining the appearance of their bikes. There’s an old joke that, for every hour of riding, Harley owners spend two hours cleaning their motorcycles. Most wouldn’t dream of riding their bikes in the rain, let alone the snow.

In cold climates, these bikes easily spend half of the year locked up in the garage. They’re usually placed under a cover, with a battery maintainer hooked up and some fuel stabilizer in the tank to keep the bike ready for action. We’re not calling anybody out, here – we’re guilty of this, too.

We may never take our bikes out in the snow, but it’s good to know that plenty of other folks will. We’re happy that they’re willing to exercise their Harley-Davidsons even in rough weather. We just hope they clean them up nice afterwards. We are Harley-Davdison owners, after all. Sometimes, those old jokes and stereotypes have a kernel of truth to them.
