Harley Davidson Motorcycle Jacket Types
The right Harley Davidson motorcycle jacket is an important decision. The basic types of motorcycle jacket are traditional leather, Kevlar, and textile. All three jacket types have their advantages and disadvantages to help comfortably, and stylishly, protect you while riding your Harley Davidson.
Leather motorcycle jackets are still the favourite motorcycle jacket of
many Harley riders and they can be made of several different types of
leather; including cow and buffalo, and more recently kangaroo.
The protective properties of leather have been used for years to help
protect motorcycle riders involved in vehicular crashes and the ability
of leather to protect you when your Harley falls is well documented in
the memory of many Harley riders. However, in recent years with the
addition of Kevlar armour and other types of protective armour to
protect knees, elbows, and even the spine, the protective ability of
leather jackets has been enhanced. Also, the new leather jackets have
been designed to be more comfortable by adding longer arm and back
lengths that continue to cover these areas of your body when you lean
forward while riding. In addition, designers have added zippered vents
in many of their designs of leather motorcycle jackets to improve
airflow.
Leather motorcycle jackets are tight fitting, all-season motorcycle
jackets and do an excellent job of protecting you from rain, wind,
cold, heat, and minor abrasions and injuries during accidents.
Unfortunately though, if you ride your Harley in direct sunlight for
extended periods, your leather jacket could start sticking to your
skin. In addition, you’ll need to waterproof your leather motorcycle
jacket to keep it supple to the touch and looking good. Leather also
turns stiff in the rain and starts to smell if it gets wet too often.
Textile motorcycle jackets are made of composite materials of different
types of nylon and polyester, but each still has the inherent
properties of the material in question. Textile motorcycle jackets have
grown in popularity among Harley riders living and riding in hotter
climates because of they’re lightweight and cooler. Textile motorcycle
jackets provide less protection than thicker leather motorcycle jackets
during a fall, but include armour of varying types to protect the
knees, elbows, and back.
Textile motorcycle jackets are durable and resistant to water and
abrasion, easily adjustable in the neck and side regions and include
reflective materials that make a Harley rider more visible on the road.
Textile motorcycle jackets are easier to care for, you can usually fold
one and store it easily and you can throw one in the washer when it
starts to look grungy.
Air Mesh Kevlar motorcycle jackets are the latest development in
motorcycle jacket technology and new types of materials are being
implemented in innovative designs every day. Extremely light-weight,
comfortable all-weather protection and wearable over your working
clothes, Air Mesh Kevlar motorcycle jackets are the perfect protection
for Harley riders who have to commute. Air Mesh Kevlar motorcycle
jackets are stronger, and more resistant to abrasion and heat than all
of the other types on the market and they also dry quickly after
getting wet. Air Mesh Kevlar jackets are cooler in hot climates and you
can wash them in your washer and dryer at home. The benefits of Air
Mesh Kevlar motorcycle jackets are being enjoyed by more Harley riders
every day.
