Leather and Waterproof?

By -

Gear is a conundrum of choices. Leather is the ideal for protection and insulation. Too hot for use in the summer and while it can resist water it eventually soaks through and leather eventually weighs 2 to 3 times as much when soaked through. So what do you do?

You can always carry a rain suit. Frogg Toggs, Nelson Rigg, HD, and many others make them. On a hot day you sweat so bad from the lack of ventilation you might as well get wet, and in fouler weather unless you have a really durable set they tear.

What’s next? Well, Aerostitch asked that same question and came up with the Transit 2 riding suit. Made out of next generation Gore-Tex leather that is both breathable, waterproof, and equipped with armor protection it could be the ideal riding gear. It also comes in just the right color selection. Black.
