March ‘HD Forums’ Member of the Month Is a True Old School Biker

Our latest HD Forums member of the month has been riding for decades, right alongside his awesome wife.

Here at HD Forums, our members have been recognizing their outstanding brethren with “Member of the Month” honors for some time now. In fact, our latest recipient of this prestigious honor – Hairy Larry – is the 25th person to be granted MoM status, and we can’t think of a more deserving person to give it to. After all, Larry has been riding since 1971, and is not only still riding and enjoying his Harley to this day, but he’s also a very active and beloved member of the HD Forums community.

Larry has been married since the tender age of 28, and now has a son, a daughter, and three grandkids. He retired a decade ago after logging 33 years at the post office, which is where he met his wife, Becky. But he isn’t just resting on his laurels – Larry still works a bit as a contract field engineer for two different nationwide broadcast radio networks, when he isn’t riding around on his bike, of course.

Larry got his start and his motorcycle endorsement on a Honda 450 before later picking up a new 1973 Yamaha XS650 when he was going through basic training for the Army, followed by a 1979 Yamaha XS750, a 1979 Harley FLH, a 1976 Harley FX1200 Super Glide, a 1996 Harley Ultra, a 2012 Harley Ultra Limited, and a 2017 Harley Road Glide Ultra, which is his current ride.

The Road Glide Ultra is his favorite of the bunch, and Larry has added a host of mods to it as well. Those include a 124 big bore kit, an aftermarket suspension at both ends, and a fixed fairing. And of course, he wrings it out on the highway as much as possible, taking a number of epic road trips over the years, including a ride up to Sturgis in 2017 from his home in Texas with his wife and three other couples.

Larry’s love of Harleys quickly rubbed off on his better half too, who purchased her own Super Glide back in 1982, and has since owned another Super Glide (after the first one perished in a garage fire) and a 2011 Fat Boy. Thus, riding is truly a family activity in the Hairy Larry household, making him more than deserving of MoM honors.
