YouTube star Adam Sandoval presents trike to U.S. Marine, Matthew Bowman.

Bikers from across America came together late last month for a special ceremony at Tramontin Harley-Davidson in Hope, NJ, to present combat hero Matthew Bowman with a custom-built Harley-Davidson trike. In 2011, Bowman lost both legs above the knee while in service for the U.S. Marine Corps.

“This trike is a reminder that freedom is not free,” said Adam Sandoval, who gifted Bowman with the “Devil Dog” custom bike in the episode “Gifting a Trike to a War Hero” for his YouTube series Adam Sandoval Rides.

The black-and-white Devil Dog was built by Metroplex Kustoms in Pantego, Texas, and painted by Gary Queen from Other Side Customs in Dallas.

‘Today we honored a war hero who earned his purple heart on the battlefield protecting the very freedom I hope he experiences with this motorcycle — the freedom of the open road.’

Back in November 2014, Sandoval and his dog, Scooter, departed Florida on a mission to ride to every Harley-Davidson dealership in the lower 48. After two years on the road, they had ridden cross-country six times, logged over 80,000 miles, visited almost 700 Harley-Davidson dealers and donated over $300,000 dollars to our military. What started out as a guy and his dog on a mission and chronicled on his blog ScootinAmerica, became an exciting road trip that not only raised money and awareness for veterans but also inspired hope all across this great country.

In his newest project, Kickstands Up, Sandoval is continuing to pursue his passion for bike riding in other areas of the motorcycle industry, including uncovering the best biker roads and destinations, plus building custom bikes for veterans.

“Today was an emotional and heartfelt day,” said Sandoval about presenting Bowman with his trike. “Today we honored a war hero who earned his purple heart on the battlefield protecting the very freedom I hope he experiences with this motorcycle — the freedom of the open road.”
