Rocker assembly, the four big bolts, is easy enough to torque down, the smaller ones and the cover bolts don't need torqueing just do 'em nice and tight but not too tight.

I stopped using a torque wrench on rocker bolts after I snapped one off on Dr.Linda's Sporty one day with the torque wrench. I had to pull the head and bring it to a professional to get out. Now I just go by feel. Like Spanners sez: Nice and tight, but not too tight.

There are several sites, but I use this one this days, which goes back to the '40s.

Yea I have had that happen to.believe it or not there was a broken rocker box bolt I just brought the bike no one fixed it I found a washer floating around in the rocker box scratched my head wondering where the hell it came from? now I know, surprised it never got jammed up in the valves.I also had a broken front and back piston ring YIKES glade they never rolled I saved this bike more then once now

How heavy are these engines approximately? can they be built off the bike and put back in? I have to remove everything anyway

Bl00dy heavy! I vaguely recall around 180 pounds? It will be interesting to see what the answer actually is. It might explain why so many Harley custom builders look like weight lifters - unless they get that shape from doing lots of builds.
