Default Seat Mods

Anyone here ever modified their own seat. Doesn't look like it would be that difficult. The cover is just stapled on after all.

Seat modification can be a DIY project but keeping it comfortable and having a smooth finished look is a skill. I work as a product developer for a home furnishings upholstery manufacturer so I chose to tackle my own. I took it apart and reworked it 3 times to get it where it is today. I even had to modify and resew some of the cover. At the end of the day, the price from a company that actually does seat modifications on a daily basis is very reasonable for what they give you in return. Chances are that they have already modified the same seat as yours, numerous times, and know what needs to be done in one shot. If I had it to do again, chances are I would save myself the trouble and send it to Mean City Cycles.

I did mine with a friend, and I was very pleased with how it turned out. We removed the cover and then reshaped the base foam to make most of the adjustments that I wanted. The we added a layer of memory foam to that, shaped the memory foam to the final feel and position I wanted, and then replaced the cover. You can hardly see a difference in the final product, but the comfort and seating position are much improved. It took us about 2 or 3 hours, IIRC.
