i've been looking for a new solo seat, but i'm having one hell of a time finding a good one. so, figured this is the best place to ask. this is what i need.
solo seat (no passenger)
back rest (or back rest compatible)
comfortable for long rides
made for tall people (need a minimum of 2" back form stock)
I was pulling my hair out deciding on what solo seat w/o having the benefit of comparing them side by side or even sitting on them. Long story short I decided on a C&C Solo (with backrest and the rear pillion).
It arrived last week and it's on, fits nice and looks great. I've yet to ride with it but I can tell by just sitting on it that it's exactly what I wanted. It moves you back almost an inch and eliminates the tendency of sliding forward into the tank that stock RK seats seem to do. For an additional charge they will hand carve the bucket to move it back, I think up to 2" can be done. I was considering this but the person on the phone asked my dimensions (32" inseam) and said he really felt it wouldn't be necessary and that their Solo is their best selling seat for a reason.
The Solo seat bucket is nice and wide at 13.5", they also offer a wider version which is 15.5" which I considered. But unless you have a pretty wide butt the extra width would be wasted and I'm glad I went with the standard 13.5". I requested foam to be on the firm side and it seems perfect, firmer than stock but just a bit softer than Corbin. I like Corbin seats and have them on a couple bikes but decided against it in this case for two reasons. One is cost, the other is I don't care for the puffy pleats they incorporate and they say that's the only way they will make it now.
The pillion's tongue fits under the rear of the solo and utilizes the rear screw that the stock seat attaches with. In addition there are 6 suction cups on it that rest on the top of the fender so it stays securely put. My idea is to use it when I have the rear rack on so a Dry Bag can lay lengthwise.
When not used the backrest slot opening is hidden under the label. The backrest just slides right in. I've never ridden with one before so I'm anxious to try it on a long ride. Many on the forum here praise them.
I'm happy with my Mustang super solo with backrest. Puts me back around an inch and a half and up a bit. Completely stopped the sliding forward to the tank the stock seat gives.
