I've had tires replaced under ESP at non-selling dealer, and received stellar service. I would have no concern buying the extended warranty elsewhere.

Makes sense why the non-selling dealer is willing to make such a great deal. They didn't get the original bike sale, selling ESP cheap they get to make something and could earn your future biz.

If you like the original selling dealer, or wish to spend your money local, consider giving them the chance to price match the good price ESP. If unsatisfied with the finance manager's response, discuss with General Manager. You could still get the same answer, but also might find GM is unaware of deals being lost.

The "ESP" extended service plan that most dealers offer is from a Harley subsidiary. There are other extended warranty plans out there but I would be far more comfortable with the "real" Harley plan.

I can't remember exactly what I paid, but I shopped around and Kutter Harley Davidson had the best price I could find in the Country for my 7 yr. warranty with tire and wheel coverage. Before you buy from anyone, give Kutter a call.

My dealer wants $2300.00 for the same ESP.
Question is... anything I should worry about buying from another dealer like this and is this a good deal?
Most ESPs are dealer specific I believe. At least in my area.

The pre-paid maintenance plans dealers sell are usually only good at the selling dealer. But the Harley ESP is good at any Harley dealer with a $50 deductible and at any licensed non Harley dealer (Indy shop) with a $100 deductible.

I paid $1,299 for my 5 year with tire and wheel coverage from my selling dealer.

ESP - extended service plan programs is available from sellers other than Harley. This is no different than the programs available for car dealers. The key is to make sure you get a "manufacturer's ESP".

Here is the basic difference. Manufacturer ESP programs are honored by all manufacturers - in this case, Harley dealers. In the event of an emergency, you can get service performed by someone else - and this is usually covered.

Non manufacturer ESP programs are usually provided by the selling dealer. They are insured by some service provider (insurance company)- but all work has to be either done by the selling dealer - or you have to call before having any work done.

The example here is you buy a Harley ESP from Dealer 1 - something happens, and you take it to any Harley dealer - no problem.

You buy a dealer ESP - something happens - you hjave to take it to that dealer or call for approval first.

Now the question that was not asked - why some dealers try to sell for less. Two answers:
1. Selling an ESP is profit- dealer cost vs ins cost equals profits.
2. And probably the best reason - dealers are sometimes paid benefits by the number of policies they sell. So, lets say there is a contest - and for every policy sold, you get $100 extra. Sell 9 policies - earn $900.

But for larger quantities, say over 10 sold, each policy is worth $200 each. In this case, sell 9 and earn $900 - but if you sell 10, you earn $2000. Well, that s an extra $1000 - so, most dealers are willing to reduce the price of the sales that pushes them over that gate - to earn larger bonus.

I was able to go into my local dealer with the cheaper price quote from elsewhere and they honored it. It's worth asking, especially if you like your local dealer. It's just like buying the bike, the price is negotiable.
