Default Adjusting shift levers

Any suggestions on how to remove the gearshift levers to adjust the angle after bolts are removed. Front shifter lever is too high. I loosened the two bolts, one for the front and one for the rear shifter, but I cannot get the rear shifter lever off the spindle to then take off the front and adjust the angle. I did not want to force it or pry it and damage something. On previous bikes, once I loosened the bolts, I was able to wiggle the levers off without much difficulty.
Thanks in advance.

I'd use a rubber mallet and some wd40...

I stuck a small blade screwdriver in the slot, and opened it up a little while pulling the leaver off.

Fully remove the bolt(s), then take a flat tip screwdriver or a small pry bar, and tap it into the gap on the shifter. There is an indention on the stud that the bolt sits in to make sure the shifter can't fall off if the bolt gets a bit loose, then the pry ar just opens up the shifter to allow a bit of clearance

Remove the bolts , it should wiggle off. I did have to use any prying.

Remove the bolts.

The bolt goes through a recess in the spline shaft.

Or, as another long thread mentioned, don't.

They'll just fall off.

You may want to adjust the linkage as well... moving the shifter on the splines is generally a pretty coarse adjustment. Cheers

Thanks for all your replies.
I loosened the bolts, but did not remove them.
I'll give it a try following your collective advice.
