My wife and I both use 3/4 helmets. If the tour pack is relatively empty we can fit both. Sometimes we need to move other contents to sit in the helmets but they fit.
I have a couple of cheap half helmets that I ride around town in... when I hit the highway I use one of my modular helmets HJC($200.00) or Nolan($50000) mostly for communication purposes . I only take the Nolan with me all others I leave on the bike unlocked. no issues so far!
Quick question for Rushmore Touring riders: What kind of helmet do you all wear? I wear a full-face Simpsons on highways but I tend to want half lids for around town. For those who use 3/4 jet style, full face, and similar styles, what do you do for storage or locking (like at a restaurant?) Those helmets don't fit in the side baggers (I have a FLHXS). Looking forward to your responses!!
I have a 3/4 that I wear most of the time. When I have gone on long trips with my wife, on the same bike, we wear 3/4 helmets. I know we do it backwards, but I really have the music on and she likes to lean over and talk to me.
After hitting our heads hard last summer after a pickup pulled out in front of us, we upgraded from our 3/4 helmets to modulars. Shoei Neotec for me and the Nolan Outlaw for the wife. Did the Sena BT headsets on both. I loved the way the Neotec fit but the field of view isn't the greatest. Now the wife's Nolan has I think the widest field of view out of any Modular we looked at but unfortunately it didn't fit my fat noggin well.
Always tradeoffs when dealing with helmets. I got used to the modular pretty quick but still prefer the 3/4. Can't beat the modulars though when its cold or raining.
My wife and I wear half helmets for most of our riding around, we bought 3/4 helmets with full shields for highway trips and rainy times on long trips they also work better with the headsets. But considering in my accident last year my face is what stopped me up against the side of the car I may upgrade to a full or at least a great gazzo 3/4 helmet for just a little more protection for the final stop if we're to hit the ground again..
