Default HD security system

When I bought my 14 ultra I didn't get the security system added now I'm wandering if I should have. Is it worth the money to get it added? I almost always lock the forks when I park it pluses if some knows what their doing they can still get your bike started with the system.. Hate to waist money on it when there's other things I'd like to put on my bike.
Thanks in advancedfor your in put

Stolen bikes are usually scooped up not ridden off. Fully insure your bike, that is the best protection you can have.

Look at it this way, if a thief with the intent to steal a bike comes up to two bikes and one has the security light flashing and the other doesn't, which bike do you think he is going to choose. Is it the one with less resistance?

I added it to my '07 Ultra, had it on my '13 Limited, and don't have it on my '15 Ultra. I know I had to trailer the '07 to the dealer so they could program it all after I had installed the alarm and siren system. Which really pissed me off since NO WHERE did it say anything about having to do that in the literature that came with it.

So I too am curious about this but want to know up front if it will require trailering it to the dealer to get programmed again.

I like having it- came with the Limited so I didn't really have a choice, but I did add the siren module and pager. You can't make your bike totally theft proof, but you can make it annoying enough to make the thief pick an easier target. And, since using the key isn't required, it's totally possible that sooner or later I'll forget to lock the ignition, leaving the bike without the security system a bit more vulnerable to theft. I don't think I've done that yet, but I could see it happening sooner or later.

I have a Limited Low so it came with it. I also added the siren/pager. Under $150 for some more peace of mind. Only thing pisses me off is that a "Limited" didn't come with the extras in the first place. I mean seriously, there's an empty slot for it, you just plug it in. Almost 30k for the bike isn't enough?

As for the "that's what insurance is for " comments you'll hear...

Insurance is for paying you 2/3 of what your bike is worth. Some of us would rather not go down that road if we can help it.

Aside from the obvious reasons I actually came out of a restaurant once
to find some broad sitting on my bike being photographed by her husband.

With the alarm system chirping and flashing the lights if your not supposed to be on the bike most gawkers wont mess with it. Just an added bonus of having the alarm.

I would have been highly pissed.

I had the security system dealer installed on my 2010 and felt it was worth every penny. About $400 I believe. It's so nice to pull up somewhere and turn off the ignition and just go in wherever and forget about someone stealing your bike. Now I do carry full coverage and if sure if somebody wants to steal it there's little you can do without putting a lock and chain on the dang thing. I sleep very good at night knowing my bike is pretty safe. Highly recommended!

Most logical attitude. Security does get me some sort of tiny discount on that insurance though.

I had the security on my 13 I added the siren only because I wanted the two way pager, it gave me a piece of mind when I was away from the bike, staying at hotels or in a restaurant or anywhere indoors. The pager has a good signal distance.

I really did not get it to prevent someone from stealing the bike, I just did not like the ideal of someone messing around knocking it over or someone backing into it.

Remember the siren only goes off if the bike is taken off the jiffy stand or the ignition is turned on.

As others have said if they want it they will take it.
