I guess what my question really is:
What good is this feature if you cannot share or see your trail? I am familiar with Garmin trails as I am
a hunter, and save all of my mountain trails to look at where I walked in the Colorado mtns. while Elk hunting. The program does show the satellite marking.

I have never expected HD to be a software company. I understand what you are saying but just because the Boom does something that many other GPS units do, does not mean that HD should develop software for something that is not the primary point of the record feature. When you record, it is so that you can ride that route again. I know they tell you how to export and maybe HD will have something in the future, who knows. It is just not possible with Ride Planner but is with many other software applications out there. I'd rather HD focus on Boom software, not on something I can get that will work better and has been user tested and in the market for years. This is just my opinion....
If you want to see where you were, then load it up in Google Earth and turn on the elevation and speed overlay.
ETA: I just read your other post and it sounds like we do the same thing with recording our trips. Have you used Google Earth? This is what I do when I make a movie on a specific trip. Like, when my wife and I were in the Ozarks. We took lots of pictures and had zoomed in on Google Earth for the pictures so we could remember where we were when we took a picture or had a thought.

Final Shot, I do always appreciate your info as it is good stuff. I thought that this feature was a great feature for them to offer when keeping a record of big trips on exactly what roads you rode. We record all of our trips with a journal and create a slide show with music etc. Great way to share adventures. We have done many over the last 30 years. I would like to add our trail to our movie maker presentation. That's why I was testing this feature. Any of your savvy knowledge on how to do this is greatly appreciated! Grant.
Thank you for your kind words.... I too like to record my trips and have used Boom to do it. I have also used a program called Ulysse Speedometer on my Android phone and it is great to record.
I generally export my trips and then save them and review them in Google Earth. If I have a route that I rode and see on the map that I missed a cool looking road or site, I will edit the trail and then save it back to Boom and load that trail to ride.
I've tried importing .gpx files into Ride Planner and all it will show is from the route beginning to the first waypoint. I've switched to Garmin BaseCamp for my ride planning because I'm familiar with it and I have lifetime maps from my Zumo so it won't get outdated. BaseCamp will import .gpx files with no problem.
You might want to download a copy of Tyre and try that. I've heard that it works well and it outputs a .gpx that plays well with the BoomBox.
Time to ask the experts. Picking up my 2017 Ultra Limited next week. Planning on a long cross country trip in the spring. The TRAILS function really interests me. It says you can record the trip, pass it on to a USB drive, and save it for future use.
My questions: Is there a distance or data limit on a specific trail? My trip will be 12,000 miles or so and I wonder if I can/should leave it on one trail or break it up and export the files in smaller increments - daily - weekly?
Once I have the data on a USB drive how do I look at it later? Can I download it to an IPAD or a desk top computer and do I need a special program to review it? It says the data is in a GPX file and wondering how to access the data.
Has anyone taken an extended trip like this and how were you able to record it? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
OK - good questions here. According to my Ride Planner, I can no longer import files. I use to be able to do that with the sync function, but for mine, it no longer exist.
Final Shot and others - are you showing an Import for ride planner?
Y show be able to import this into something like Honda Ride Planner -no conversion needed.
