Default First service. When to switch to sync

Hi Guys

First post in the touring section. Traded my Superglide in for a 15 Street Glide. I got a ridiculous quote from the dealer for the cost of the first service and it's a no brainer I will not be taking it there. I did all the servicing on my last bike and plan on doing the same for this bike.

Question is I was told by the dealer the new bikes do not come with synthetic oil from the factory. At what point is it safe to switch, I have heard in the past that the motor should be completely broken in before going to sync. I was thinking doing the first one with dyno oil and switching at the next change.

Whenever you want to switch. Your motor will be completely broken in in very few miles.

If you were to let the dealer perform the 1000 service they would probably want to put Syn3 in all three holes. Some do it as early as 500 miles.

The switch generally comes at the first service - 1000 miles.
Enjoy the Street Glide.
Nice Choice.

Only the CVO bikes come from the factory with synthetic.
So unless your previous Super Glide was a CVO bike, it didn't come with synthetic either.

Most do the switch at the first service.
You can make the switch at any time you want though.

You might think of keeping Formula Plus in the primary and different stuff for the trans though. I had synthetic in all 3 done at 1,000 and went back to Plus in the primary and Bel Ray Hypoid gear lube in the trans. Huge improvement in clutch feel and shifting.

Switched mine to Mobil 1 V-twin at 1,200 miles. Currently approaching 10,000 miles no issues.

Good post, Thx! My new SG won't be here until the 2nd week of May.
The dealer will do the 1,000 mile service as part of buying the bike.

Nice Ride PoCoBob!

I got my 2014 Limited in later Oct and only had a chance to put 300 miles on it before time to store it. I'd also thought that needed to wait on synthetic, but then was informed that this was not so. I made the switch to Mobil 1 V-twin when I put it away for the winter.
