I had a 2013 Deluxe that I purchased new. At the 1000 mile service, I had everything switched over to synthetic . As I was leaving the dealer, I noticed that the engine revved a little faster and it felt a bit smoother.
Fast-forward to today. Now I traded in my 2013 Deluxe for a 2014 SGS last fall. I had the 1000 miles service done two weeks ago and at that time, I asked for full synthetic. I have put 400 miles on since then and it does not feel the same as when I had my old Deluxe changed. So my question is, how do you tell the difference between synthetic and regular oil. I paid for synthetic and I want to make sure I got it.
You wouldn't "feel" it! It's just lubricant! At the most you might hear a SLIGHT difference. I think you are mistaken about thinking you Deluxe felt different.
This ain't no bullshit: the only sure way to tell is to is to place a thin film in a frying pan and turn it on HIGH, if it starts to smoke before the pan warps it's Dino, pan warps first syn.

There was a local shop once that would sell a special shop-made Synthetic blend. They swore it would give you up to extra 10Hp and improve mileage by up to 5MPG. Finally somebody got fed up, and a local news station did an investigation - it was plain Penzoil. The shop is no longer in business...
Having said that, I really don't think that a Harley dealership would actually cheat on something like that - not enough money to risk a reputation on.
