Talking I'm feeling . . . educated!!

Took the advanced riders course at the Gruen Harley Davidson dealership in - (wait for it) Gruene, TX. Very good course . . . Since coming off of my 2011 Superglide Custom a month ago I've only put about 300 miles on my Ultra Ltd. My confidence level in the bike has risen tremendously with all the 'close order drills' that are part of the course. The tight weaving is rather humbling for sure . . . but I improved dramatically towards the end of the course. Only me and one other person showed up with the threat of rain and lightening. But no rain, no lightening and no flooding in the route that we took there. Hoping for a couple dollars off of insurance for sure.

Well worth the time and effort (woke up at 6:00AM on a Sunday - oof!) to take the course - for sure. Got out of there about 2:00PM . . . I'm thinking about doing it again in 6 months just to see how well I'm progressing . . . its a challenging course for sure!

Mark!

Well done!

I used to be required to take the MSF basic course every couple years while in the Navy. I've owned and ridden bikes for 20 something years so I scoffed at it at first. Then I realized these courses are actually quite fun and always seem to correct some bad habits along the way. Since then I've taken the ERC twice. Once on my old Sporty and again in 09 on my new (at the time ) Street Glide. It was also fun and humbling and instructive. I, too, encourage anyone to take these courses when they can. It's not about memorizing TCLOCKS or things like that but just getting back to basics and riding better because we love to ride.

I agree . . . its a class where I'm doing what I love to do - ride! Even the instructor squashed a cone (once) . . . I did 'break in' my motorcycle, I scrapped the left footboard on a turn . . . for me that was a good thing!

I'm thinking about doing it again in perhaps October or so? Perhaps we can get a group of HDF riders together and do the course . . . it could happen!

I'm in. I haven't taken the advanced course since 1999. Time for a refresher.

Hey Guys! Hope everyone survived the weekend without too much swimming! My grown up kids are underwater in Houston.

Mark, congrats on taking the course! I always said that its great to practice without having to dodge traffic.

Mark, Skully, Safetyman.. I just recently got my HD Ridercoach Certification up in Dallas. One of my classmates was with a group from Ride Skillfully.org. They wanted to know if I wanted to set up practice sessions to give local guys the opportunity to develop their skills, potentially to the motor officer level. What do you guys think? would there be enough interest around here to set up something like that? I would be willing to do some of the leg work to get it going.. let me know what yall think..

Go check out their website www.rideskillfully.com ... they have all the patterns and some reading materials. We would need to find a parking lot that is big enough and just pick sometime to get together.
