Default Adjustable Rider Backrest Q.

On the mount that bolts to the fender under the seat.Is the little cylinder a spring loaded device or is it like a little shock(hydraulic)? Is the purpose of it to press the backrest into your back when you pull the release lever?I'm looking at buying a used mount and pad and just curious if this is something that fails.
TIA.

Had mine for a year & no problems with it. The adjusting mechanism & piston has worked fine. The backrest really helps with comfort. Initially the backrest pushed me too far forward even in the rearmost position & the pad was too high on my back. I cut & welded the bar to lower the pad & bent the bar to change the angle. In the lowest setting the pad is just above the seat & its perfect for me.

Have had mine for 5 years no problem. Never had a problem with it pushing me too far forward either.
Just moved it to a new bike. One of the few thing that fit on my 2011 RK and will fit on my 16 also.
Love it.

Default Non-adjustable

I have had both the adjustable and now the non-adjustable back rests. By adjustable, I mean by pulling the lever which allows for forward and aft movement of the rest.

I found that once I found the sweet spot, I never changed it, and when I bought one for my 15 Limited, I just went with the cheaper one, no adjustment mechanism to bother with, and it works fine, again once you get it to where you want it.

I have the adjustable on my 14 Limited and love it. To answer your question, Yes when you pull the lever it will go forward. Pull the lever when you are seated (at a stop preferably) and push back with your back to adjust. Release the switch when it is where you want it. The spring you see is for the switch the back rest is hydraulic.
