torque tools
so ive decided to do the maintenance myself from here on out. i am pretty well fixed for hand tools, i did pick up a good torx set with external and plus bits etc. im a fairly decent shade tree mechanic so that part doesnt worry me. i have several torque wrenches in both 3/8 & 1/2 inch drives. my question is do i need a torque screwdriver for some of the smaller fasteners i will run into, and will i need one in inch pounds and the newton inch? i know i need a good lift as well. got the manuals too so i think im set.......or am i? never had a better excuse to fill up another tool box! :-)
An inch/pound newton/meter torque wrench will come in handy, preferably in 1/4in drive, a 3/8in drive will work, but it don't go down scale enough for a lot of the inch/lb fasteners on the bike.
You'll need torque abilities ranging from 60 in-lbs to 105 ft-lbs, you won't really need to toque anything in newton settings. There are other lower in-lb settings but I think you'll be able to handle those. If you get into the compensator, you'll go higher than 100 ft-lbs. 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" is more than good.
I use my torque screw drivers (inch OUNCES and inch POUNDS) more often than you would think. The angle for a screwdriver is nice on things like the outer fairing bolts and the tour pack tether. Inch ounces for speaker pod screen screws.
I have a calibrated elbow.Used torque wrenches when I was in Aerospace for 12 years. I own three of them guess I should use them.
