Default Nav map update

My 14 LTD has 2012Q2 version in it and there is a current update of 2014Q2. Is it worth the expense to update?

That depends on your definition of "worth the expense". I think the update is, what, $150? Not worth it to me since you're buying a two year old "update"?

Garmin and TomTom offer lifetime map updates, even on some of their most basic GPS units. The technology and data is out there -- it's a shame that H-D doesn't provide it.

$150 for an already obsolete, two-years-out-of-date map set? Screw that!

Most of what the MOCO sells is a ripoff to some extent, but charging ANYTHING for those updates is way over the top!

Garmin and TomTom are "stand alone" GPS units and not built into any factory vehicles that I know of.

Just about every manufacturer that has "factory" navigation charges for map updates.

This is not an HD thing.

I have 3 vw's with nav and they charge 199 for an update. Every year i get a special offer of 99 dollars. I have never purchased any updates. The VW dealer has given me the updates. They obviously get some copies. The older vw (2010) is a CD, the newer are on SD cards. In my small world of travel, i've never noticed a difference after updating.

CVO gets 3 free updates in a 5 year period (that i paid for, no doubt calculated into the purchase price), i used one two months ago. After i use the other two, i won't be updating my maps.

My suggestion is to get a good mount for your phone and use the best free app or as suggested google maps etc. They will be the most current and most likely free.

Yeah, I paid for the update and yeah, it's a ripoff. My Garmin has lifetime updates (about once a year). Gonna try to Waze from my iPhone 6S. That said I'm through buying dedicated GPS. Waze on a tablet and carry it in any/all vehicles. No more update operations.
