Default Harley Reach Bars

I'm looking into a set of reach bars. I've been trying some new seats, and nothing is solving all my comfort and position problems, so looks like I'm getting a seat, and bars :/ The HD reach bars seem to describe what I'm looking for, 2" further back. I'm not against going up an inch, but I for sure want to keep my hands under the fairing. Mostly I just want them further back do I can sit back fully in the seat, relax my back on the backrest and cruise... Right now I find that in order to sit comfortably, my arms are fully extended. I'm 5'9" and 180 lbs. Any of you guys try these bars?

Handle bars suck more than seats. At least with seats it's a 5 min change. Getting the bars with the right position in accordance with your wrist position, height and distance is a huge deal. I have 10" LA choppers. Mine are pushed forward but can be pulled back. My hands sit low enough to just clear the wind. Find a rally, and ask for some test fits (I never mind if someone asks). Best of luck to you.

I did this change on my '15 FLHTK for the same reason after having my seat customized to move me back off the tank by about 2". Worked out great. Not the easiest DIY change to make but the dealer wanted around $1000 to do it. I can now sit back a little more and find it a lot easier on the upper back/shoulder. Hands are still protected by the fairing. Only thing is it takes a bit of getting used to as the wrist angle is different (the outside of the hand moves back about 2" but the thumb/forefinger stay almost the same distance) and a tight radius turn means your one hand is closer in and the other further out from the tank than with the regular bar. Go sit on a Ltd Low. I believe it uses the Reach bar and you can get a feel for the change.

That's a good idea to sit on the low. I'll throw a demo seat on one to get a true feel. I think they have a low at the dealer...

I did this change to my SG and just got back from a 9,500 mile ride. Never had a problem riding long distance on my SG.....just cruising on down the road!! Easy change and I took my time making the change. Go for it!

Compare the pics. After install with new grips above, factory bars below.
These worked perfect for me, didn't need any wiring or cables.

These are HD reach bars on my 15 SGS. Made a big difference for me. I'm 5'7 with a 29 inseam. The factory bars made me feel like i had a knife in my spine between my shoulder blades after hours of riding.
Now I'm sitting straight up, with slightly bent elbows.

Search YouTube for:

He has a great video on how to remove the fairing for install.

These 2 pics are worth a 1000 words and perfectly show the difference in "wrist angle" and the change in reach during tight radius turns I referred to earlier. if you are stretched out reaching for the bars and/or feeling that pain in your upper back and shoulders this is a change seriously worth considering.

I used the Harley bars for a season and they were ok, then for a bit more pullback and better wrist angle I switched to these:

I had some of the same issues as you and wanted to relax against the backrest. I don't even think about bars or seats anymore.
