I jsut got a road glide ultra 17 model and I hear it and seems like you can even feel the shift in the clutch handle. I suspect since i have only 150 miles on it that will tend to lessen as it gets broke in.
Thanks, i was afraid of that. I would take the clunk anyday over this and may be a deal breaker for a new bike. i guess we will see if anyone gets use to it. i cant believe so much progress and let this go.
HD changed the clutch slave cylinder for 2017. I'm pretty sure the previous unit will interchange. Not positive that's the difference but that's where I would start.
You heard it here first

Mine took awhile to get used to but after couple thousand miles its either eased up some ,broke in or Im just used to it now. Either way I dont even think about it anymore. Just with the same way the fans kick on pretty often when at lights etc...its the nature of it and Im used to it now. Must be how its intended to work cause it does. Runs like a scalded dog. Everytime I hop on the Interstate and open it up I get a big grin on my face. My 17 Limited the best HD Ive owned....till the next one...lol
Since the 2017 M8 slipper clutch is basically the one they used in the 2016 CVO , but with less clutch plates, I wonder if CVO owners had the same gear engagement feeling in the clutch lever?
Test rode two 2017s. Neither had a bang. The engagement at the last micrometer was a little off putting, but once underway I adjusted.
Problem was once I got back on my bike I damn near killed it because it engaged way before the 17 did. I think it actually took longer to get back to the old way of doing it than it did to adjusting to the new clutch.
That and my bike seemed loud and slow by comparison. Those 17s run out very well.
I got an extended ride on a 17 SGS. The clutch on my 14 feels better than the 17 m8 IMO. I could feel every gear hit in the lever of the clutch on the 17.
Yeah I feel it on mine too. I now only have 200 miles or so and I must have got used to it or it lessened as I don't even think about it anymore. So much better all around then my 14 SGS I came from though so I'm not complaining.
Hydraulic clutch have been on motorcycles for years really cannot understand why Harley has not got this right yet. My 16 in dealer for a week right now for recall . Maybe they should have left it cable . My biggest complaint is no adjustment ,put a handle on we can adjust .
