For me, I knew because the reservoir was full of fluid, the check engine and over-temp lights were on, the fans would come on, but there was cool air coming out of the vents. There was also the possibility that it was a thermostat issue or temperature switch failure, but the pump was the most likely culprit, and that's what it turned out to be...
And Do you think this is a common issue that is inherently going to fail?
So we may as well take it off and check it?
Can this be checked without taking the pump off?
Turn your ignition on, then hold the throttle to more than 50% for few seconds, the fans & pump will start.
Not a diagnostic mode, its to bleed tbe cooling system after draining it, but perfect for checking the pump.
Once its running you can pull the plug off & on to see whats happening.
Most obvious thing for diagnosis is, after a ride the radiators & pipes are cold, no flow.

My water pump failed on my 2016 RGU at 16K miles. I'm out of warranty so I replaced it myself tonight, the new pump works great but it makes an audible whirring noise that I don't remember the old one ever making. I'm worried this new pump might have issues...
I called around to find a pump in stock, not many dealers have them on hand as they are constantly putting new ones in (their words, not mine). Two dealers told me the pump (P/N 26600012) was marked for obsolescence in the HD computer, and is being replaced by a new part, but they don't know when or how much it will be. Seems like HD is tired of replacing these fragile pumps and issuing a new model in the near future.
hi
same on my 2015 trike. 2 pumps gone in 2 years, never a pump in stock, called more then 10 dealers. Waiting time 6 weeks.:-(
Fixed mine on last trip on Camping thanks to your forum, many thanks. so we could finish this trip at least.
First time was horror, loan a car get the trike home etc, cost a lot of money
I'm looking for a replace pump IPx7 or 8 at least because of the dust and water.
HD pump consumes 2,2a at 12V. No idea about the flow? 20 liters? may be someone knows more or even could measure the flow with his old pump?
