I retired at 63, started collecting around 2G a month. If I would have waited until 66 (full retirement age for most Baby Boomers) and started collecting SS I would have got around $600 a month more, $7200 a year. BUT I would have lost the $72,000 I was paid for those 3 years (63-66) so at 66 making $7200 a year more it would have taken me over 10 years (age 76+) to recoup my losses. It's a crapshoot, who knows what the system will be like in 10 years. I'll take my money as soon as I can. And I'm 90% sure there are no limitations on earnings after age 66...Good Luck on your retirement!

correct...I have been telling my friends this for years. Your breakeven point is so far out that only if you live a very very long time ( quien sabes!) does it make sense to delay payments. I would only delay payments if I had a very high paying job that I loved I.E. Rockstar, or loved going to work ( which I don't). The above math does not include inflation and interest earned on your SS payments if you can bank 'em.
Do you think the government does this to lose money..or save money....?

I had this same argument with both my financial advisor and my CPA golfing budding. They both insisted that if you look at the financial analysis, you should wait.

Yeah, well, we're talking about living a life here, not that finances aren't important.

Key point that everybody overlooks: The SSA has the most sophisticated actuarial analysis in the world. Do you know why they pick the ages they do, meaning why is it 66 and 70 for increased benefits? It's because that's the 50-50 point where you have an even chance of dying before you break even. They're not stupid.

Bird in the hand and all that. I took it at 62, and I ain't lookin' back.

I bought the same shield, I'm excited about receiving it but still don't have a shipping notification yet. I just look over the top of the stock RGU shield so hopefully this one will be just right. I ordered it in medium tint.

Congrats on your new bike!

I am a Big fan of Freedon Shields / however , I found the medium tint just too dark, I looked over as I should, still at dusk or evening - it was an issue for me - just in small areas

Welcome back from Indian, glad the front end didn't fall off on you! LOL, (heard of a couple frames breaking at the triple tree. One first hand, the other, hear say)
Enjoy your retirement, I also am retired, x 2. once from GM, once as of Nov 16th from the USAFR, my third will be a partial federal retirement of 14 years next Nov. I will NOT work past 61 yrs old, and will be just fine! WHY would you want to work that much farther,, and just make your kids rich after you die? LOL. I plan on enjoying my last 20+ years I hope, with traveling, etc...
(my kids will be fine too,, of course)

But I retire in 4 weeks and I want to spend as much time as I can riding around the country and doing all the things I couldn't do because of work. So tomorrow I'm trading for a 2017 Road glide Ultra. Everybody I talk to says there's nothing like it and that once I try it I'll never regret it. I did take it for a short test ride but I know that's not really enough to know for sure. So I'm taking the plunge. I'm only adding heated grips and a rider backrest and I'll probably change shields after a while, but other than that I need to save what I can for retired life.
Wish me luck.
Glad to see you came back to HD. R&R= Retire and Ride, that is all you need to do.

Congrats on the new ride and retirement hope they treat you well. I myself went from a sg to a rg to a 14 street glide special to a 16 rgs. There is no ride like my 16 rgs its my best riding harley to date. It was a toss up between a 17 and my current 16 witch i felt was better for me, but damn the newer suspension is finally what it should of been for years.
