If you don't mind me asking but what map did they suggest? I have the same pipes that I carried over to my 16 ultra classic that I will be decatting with an fp3.
I had the dnt's with no cat on my previous road king with fp3 and was still getting decel pop and Vance and Hines told me nothing could fix it and it would get worse due to me decatting my stock head pipes. Interested to hear what they recommended to you.
I have read that when a stock header is DE-catted, there should be a minimal lip left behind. It creates a swirl or something that helps the O2 sensors. That's first regarding DE-catting.
To answer your question. They suggested I use V&H Twin Slash Round slip ons w/Power Duals as the base map. Run it for a full tank of gas, if you notice the bike running progressively worse call 800 592-2529. They also said DE-catted stock headers create O2 sensor reading issues and we will need to adjust your map to essentially eliminate the O2 sensors.
I used this map for several hundred miles with decel popping. I then did the Auto tune for Three One hour Riding Sessions. Running it hard, smooth and high RPM's in each gear. I rarely have the Decel pop anymore.
Hope that helps.
On my 14 RK I have the FP3, Cobra NH slip-ons, 09 Head pipe and Namz O2 extenstion cable and bungs. V&H told me to select Hi-Output and Power-Duals, then told me to run Auto Tune. I did just that, now if I get on it with no passenger from a stop I can fishtail for 50ft. Also have no Decel pop.

Keep in mind that V & H sells head pipes, so your always going to get a pitch that plugs their pipes over a decatted stock head pipe.

Thanks that's exactly what I was looking for. I'll give it a try and see how it goes. I was told to use the twin slash rounds as well but didn't select power duals, I'm sure that's what I was doing wrong.

Your welcome. Hope it works for you, don't forget to do the Autotune. Remember keep it in auto and apply learned values every 100 miles. Do that at least 3 times then apply and finish.
Won't be riding around here for a while, whole lota rain. The Lake is about to flood in low areas. Full is 7.5 Rumsey. This morning it's 7.6 and we are expecting more the next several days. At least the State is getting out of the drought for now.

Oh yea that's what I was thinking as well with the response I was given. It is a business for them to sell there stuff after all.
I actually did buy their dresser duals but after installing them they were so loud that I couldn't enjoy the bike. I'm sure for the bar hoppers it would be just fine as they did sound good, but just too ear piercingly loud for me. After taking them off and getting a gutted stock head pipe I found the perfect sound.
And I stayed away from the power duals after hearing about issues with the pipe scraping during turns. It took a lot of internet searching and trial and error to finally get the sound I was looking for.
I am considering changing the header pipe to eliminate the cats. I am undecided whether to purchase an original pipe that has had the cats removed, a replacement 2 into 1, into 2 pipe, or just go with the true dual header pipe. I have purchased a FP3, installed it, but have not made any changes as the bike is still completely stock, 2014, Rushmore). I am not looking to increase HP. Mainly to eliminate some of the heat produced by the cat system and to try and smooth out the engine at low speeds. 1st & 2nd gear bucking & jumping in traffic.
Which pipe would you experienced guys recommend?
I have the V&H 450 Oversized, de-catted stock pipe and the FP3. V&H had me use the map for their OS 450 muffler and Power Dual headpipe. Bike runs great, and decal pop is rare. After a two tanks of gas, I will run auto-tune as per the V&H rep. If I don't like the auto-tune results, the previous map is there in the FP3 to go back to. You do not want the cat, it adds SO MUCH more heat.

Also so you can track what areas you need to work on for the Autotune, Screenshot the green and orange blocks before you apply. I transferred my screenshots into a spreadsheet.
I just installed a stock OEM decatted headpipe on my 2014 Ultra Limited to reduce the heat. It did just that, big difference! Now I'm looking at adding Rinehart slip ons but concerned they will be too loud at highway speeds and I wont be able to hear the radio. I've been reading threads for 3 hours now and opinions vary greatly on this. Some say way too loud without cat others say its fine. I want a deeper rumble but I don't want the bike to be too loud.
OP and others with Rinehart slip-ons and decatted head pipe - are you able to hear your radio at highway speeds? What about long rides, hows the sound after hours on the highway?
