No quality complaints here. Comparing to dozens of Japanese bikes I've owned, the quality of my FLHTCU is outstanding!
2016 Ultra Classic, built in Dec of 2015 and sold new to me on 20 Jan 2016.
Bike just passed 25k miles.
Problems I've had:
Oil leaks, first from the rear breather bolt, and later from the rear rocker box gasket. Both problems I fixed myself due to lack of faith in dealer shop.
Gas cap binding. Dealer shop replaced it twice. Looks like the 2d time got it done.
Front sparkplug wire damaged by chafing against the fuel tank. I replaced the wire set myself and made sure the chafing wouldn't continue.
Jiffy stand spring lost its mojo. New spring costs $7.00. Replaced it myself.
The radio is glitchy. Turns itself on and off. I don't use it much.
Best motorcycle I've ever owned, and I'm comparing it to three Goldwings, a Venture, and two BMWs.
KrustyKush brings up a good point, especially for those of us with 14 model year bikes. That front plug wire DOES rub on the bottom of the tank because it was not secured properly. I had the same issue and caught it before it went all the way through to wire, but everyone should at least be checking. Run your fingers up the wire and where that wire sits on the bottom of the tank, if there's an indentation it needs attention. If you don't feel any flaws, you're likely fine.
Yeah, kinda forgot about that one. I did find the dent, and moved the spark plug boot over a fraction of an inch, and wrapped some electrical tape around the wire, I should probably recheck that, just to see if my hillbilly fix is working.

Given that it's your first time with the Rushmore, I would first of all suggest you buy the shop service manual from Harley. You'll save yourself a lot of money with that investment. Specifically regarding the plug wire, the best way is to remove the tank and tighten up the zip tie or relocate it so that it doesn't rub at all. Another member mentioned cutting a vacuum line and wrapping it around...that too is a great solution and can be done without removing the tank. The tank is incredibly simple to remove however. Quick disconnect on the fuel line and 5 bolts.
This plug wire thing is something I had forgotten about too. Was a hot topic a couple years ago and it kinda got lost.
