The rack is very close to the backrest.....less than 1/4 inch. When I push the back rest back toward the rack it doesn't touch....there is not much give there.
Hope this helps.
Just installed on my 2013, no indents on mine that lined up with aftermarket rack but looks like where stock mounts. Removed lid, used painters tape to setup and mark. Used 3 bits to take me up to wanted hole size, held breath and went at it. Fell into place perfect
Just a heads up to those mounting a rack on the tour pack. Remember when you have a bag on the rack and open the tour pack , be very careful with it.
1 It can get away from you and if it does good chance it will break the tour pack
2 Even if it does not get away from you it can bend the hinges out of a liniment.
More than one tour pack has gone to the scrap pile because of this
I drilled mine out with regular bits on the molded marks. I did end up die grinding one of the holes slightly. The rack did fit without shaving the hole but I wanted it to sit in there without any additional stress so I opened one up a little.

When traveling with a rack bag, I never let the top go all the way over. Too much stress on the top and hinges. Either I or I have someone else support the top when opening with bag on top....
Just got this given to me yesterday. Brand new, never installed. I didn't know about the dimples, I will check when I get home. Measure twice, cut once
