Very interesting idea!

Reflectix is also a popular material for deflecting heat and may be very useful here. Curious how it works out.

Currently using a HD 52000248 solo, which has a vinyl cover.. Little or no improvement for me from the stock SGS seat. (would a leather cover be better for comfort?)
Thoughts on Sheep Skin pads for longer rides. Seems like something that will breath a little might be better than HD vinyl? If you use some type of Pad, or Skin please share your findings.
Thanks!
seriously, the drawers make a difference. Adidas athletic underwear... (compression style shorts that go mid thigh).
Did 8 days to/around Ozarks last August. (My first long tour trip). Dad kept trying to get me to use his spare seat pad. I wanted to see what the stock seat on my '16 SGS did... so I declined. He and others in group were betting I'd need the monkey butt powder. Never did. They ride in whiteys, vs my athletic spandex. They should be a piece of your gear for any trip (not as stinky either).

Armachillos from Deluth Trading with Goldbond Powder have worked very well for me the last two summers.

Exofficio makes great stuff. I've been wearing their fishing shirts for years. Their boxers I wear for riding are kind of spendy but definitely worth it on a long ride.

I followed the advice of another member. I've been wanting to try some type of seat pad. (the HD mesh has caught my interest).
Reading a lot about Beads. Really didn't want to dump too much money into another experiment so a fellow member suggested to go to WalMart and get an auto type seat bead pad and shape it to fit my seat. Stopped at Walmart to look and they had some on sale for $9.99. Kind of a PITA to reconfigure but it was raining out so why not. I used a bungie ball on each side an attached it to my rear bag guards. Simple to do and I believe that it would stay nicely in place.
Put it on and decided to ride out 35 miles with it on, remove it and circle back for home. The temp was only 68F so I wasn't too sure if it would be a worth while experiment or not. About 2- miles in the saddle I could feel a very cool sensation, these beads truly do permit a lot of air flow under your butt. It feels like having the seat coolers turned on in your truck. Also they seem to distribute the riders weight on the seat as well. On a hot day these would help keep me more comfortable I'm sure.
Got to my destination and pulled off the beads, within a 1/2 mile I could feel the seat of my pants warming up.
Not totally sold on the looks of the beads.....a black set would better suit me as far as looks go.
The experiment has got me leaning towards a mesh pad to carry in one of the bags and pop it on if needed. If I were heading out for a 150 plus ride, I'm pretty sure I'd put it on before I headed out.
Attached is a picture, this was only an experiment as I mentioned. I'm sure better looking, higher quality wood beads are available to purchase.
