Default Top Speed Curiosity

How fast should a stock bike be? I've never been obsessed with speed. I'm usually a 70, maybe 75mph guy. Today, I was out riding with my buddies, who were both on Goldwings. One was an 1989 GL1500, the other was a 2013 F6B and I was bringing up the rear. I was on my 2015 Limited and riding without the Tour Pak. We got to an open stretch of road in the expressway and the guys took off. It wasn't a race, but just ***** out down the highway. I went right with them thinking we'd get but so fast and then slow down, but they didn't slow down. Next thing you know, we're pushing 100mph. One of them is a local COP, so I figured what the hell. I went right up to about 110 with the throttle pegged and couldn't get anymore out of my bike. My buddies kept accelerating and pulled away from me. Even the '89 kept going. They said the backed off at about 115mph for the '89 and 125mph for the F6B. I don't plan on trying that again any time soon for sure and I know 110mph is plenty fast, but it just had me kind of disappointed that I couldn't keep up with those bikes. So how fast should a stock bike be?

There is no way in hell that any stock Harley, (other than a VRod), can match the top speed of a Goldwing or F6B.

Well funny you should ask. A fellow I know just told me yesterday that his 2015 Limited (completely stock) will run 121 mph!

Either something is wrong with your bike, or the 14 Street Glide has some mods. The 17 should be faster, the 14 has the same drivetrain as you do.

LOL- I have a completely stock 2014 Ultra. Think my top speed is about 85 mph. I know this because on the way to Montana where the speed limit was 80 mph, I set my cruise on 85 - and didn't want to go over that.

That my friend was enough for me.

I know what you mean. The front end on these bikes starts getting a little light at that speed and throw in the cross winds.......
