It never really ends. How much money do you want to spend?
No more than necessary. On the last motorcycle I bought, it was seat, handlebar risers, highway pegs in that order that made the biggest difference. I have a feeling that the seat is also going to be at the top of the list for this one.
The reason for my post is that a friend of mine showed me some mid frame air deflectors on her Road King the other day and said they were the best thing she ever put on her bike. Guess they cool things way down. I would have never guessed they would have made much if any difference. It got me thinking "what other things am I missing?"
Depends on where you live but up North there's been plenty of days where I'm out riding in 60 degree sunny weather and bye nightfall it dips into the 40's real quick!!! Yeah I could pack an extra pair of winter gloves but it's sooo convenient to just turn the **** on the grip and instant heat. This is my 1st bike I've ever had with heated grips and I'll probably never get another touring bike without em
I bought my wife a 16 SGS, upgrades we've done, heated grips, rear crash bars, Klock werks windshield, fearing deflectors, custom dynamics led front and rear running/turn/stop lights(the stock lights are pathetic), the rear led lights from HD for the saddle bags, road pegs to stretch out on long trips and a heated Corbin solo seat witch she loves! That's most of the functional upgrades we've done.
I have a new to me 14 SG that is basically bone stock. What are the "must haves" as far as accessories/improvements that I should be looking at? I'm not as worried about cosmetics as much as function and riding comfort. Performance is also secondary, I already have a fast bike(not this one.) This bike's purpose is more of a 250-600 mile a day bike.
Upgrade your suspension. You will swear you have a brand new bike! The ride and handling will be greatly improved. Then you can later really enjoy and get the full advantage out of performance upgrades.
I say ride and see what you think you need. The stock seat on my RGS was fine for me, but for my fiancee it was not. Highway pegs were a plus, windshield was a given. Handlebars also. But these are things I noticed while riding.
Unlike most, my wife and I are less interested in cosmetic and performance improvements and more interested in comfort, security, and communication/entertainment.
Our upgrades as of now.....
- Sena 20s bluetooth communicators
- Sena Freewire modules
- LRS 11" Light Tint Flat Top Windshield
- Passenger Arm Rests
- Siren and Pager (peace of mind at hotels)
- Alaska Leather Sheepskin (on the way)
We plan our first "long" trip to the Grand Canyon and Sedona area in a few weeks. We will spend 500 miles riding on the first day. We plan a lot of breaks and picture taking as most of the miles will be in the mountains of NM and AZ.
