Like others have said, pull over and let them go by. There is never a reason to escalate the situation when they have a 2500lb weapon and your on a motorcycle. Riding smart is just as important as riding safe.
We have all been there with these people who just don't care how close they get up our rear ends.
I mean it can be very nerve racking when someone is on your ***.
What do you do?
that nut throwing would get you shot these days. A motorcycle is no place for a short fused hot head in a road rage situation.
(Not saying you do) There are a lot of riders that feel just cause they are on a bike they own the road and can block traffic without moving over.
like others have said, move or speedup then move.
now with common senseout of the way, where do I get one of these set ups that hold 2 dozen nuts? Lmao
Speed up, get clear of them, get off the road, and let them pass seems like a decent idea. But this isnt an issue I deal with often since I ride above the limit pretty much always. And I dont hang out long behind cars that don't, which allows others to pile up behind me. Without knowing your situation I have to ask, are you a rolling road block?
I'm with some of the others, I tend to be the faster person because it is easier to watch what is in front of your then what's behind. So tailgating doesn't come up much. But, a pickup "once" had some fun with me when I was in the right lane getting ready to exiting off the highway. I doubt we had 6 inches space between us. I would like to say I wished I had a fist full of pennies to show my appreciation, but that likely would have made the situation worse with a guy like that.
My answer to your question is observe your surroundings (situational awareness) and move to space where you are in the least conflict with the traffic.

That nut-holder is cutesy, but will get you smushed or shot or arrested or all three. But when I just started riding in the 60's, an old-time biker recommended having a loose roll of nickels on board: "So sorry, just searching for change...."
I ride to work almost everyday in Cleveland rush hour traffic. I see dumb **** daily. I also am a fast rider. I don't think twice about 20 over the limit if that is what a good bit of the other traffic is doing to just keep me moving slightly faster than the most of the traffic. This keeps me away from most of it. If I encounter aggressive drivers I let them pass as soon as I can.
Would I like to take out some frustration on some ******* that I feel is threatening my safety? Hell yes. Is it smart in today's age of complete loons? Nope. Let it go and live to ride another day. It's not worth getting worked up over. You just have to understand society today. You are not important. They will tell you that. Only they matter to themselves. No amount of reaction on our part is going to change that. It just makes them more angry.

I would never stop and let anyone pass me, I’m in my space and I expect the driver behind me to stay his distance..I might need to make a hitchhiker first and motion them to move back and that usually does it...the old people and texting drivers down in Florida are oblivious to anything around them, so that makes me nervous sometimes..Now if I was all the way down in 3rd World South Florida or 3rd World Orlando, that’s a different story,. they’ll run you off the road or pull a gun out....

As I have posted in the past, cars usually back off quite a ways behind me. Not really sure why but I notice it when I commuted to work there would usually be a 1/4 mile gap behind me. When traveling, cars will slow as they approach to pass, pace for about 15 seconds or so then pass quickly after I give them a quick look over my shoulder.
