Default Issue after bar swap

You have saved me in the past and hopefully someone can do it again.

Spent the weekend installing 14" Vindikta bars on my 2016 Road Glide Special.

After pulling all the wires and getting Right and Left controls/ plus throttle secured and in place I mounted the bars and hooked them up just to test everything was good. I hooked up the Speedo without mounting and everything powered right up. I hit start and everything fired up and ran perfectly. Throttle was spot on and I was smiling.

I next finished up by getting the bars to the perfect angle and mounted the clutch and brake controls. I did have to loosen the Left/right controls to slide them a bit more to match up with the clutch/brake. I tightened it all down and then reconnected the speedo and got it back in place. Now I turned the ignition and the Nav came to life as normal, but the Speedo did not light up. I heard the fuel pump kick in and all the normal sounds of getting ready to start were there. When I hit start nothing. Neither left or right controls do anything. Nav is on and motor sound ready to go.

Could I have blown a fuse? Does one fuse protect the Speedo and hand controls? What else should I look at?

Thanks!!

Oh and when reinstalling the speedo I was moving the ignition switch several times and depressed the button on the back whiled doing this. Is messing with that button on the bottom an issue?

That button allows the ignition switch to be removed. I don’t think that matters since you said when you turned the switch everything came on and the fuel pump primed. If that didn’t happen, I would have assumed you lifted the ignition switch and misaligned the cogs inside.

Pretty easy to pinch wires at the hand controls. Double check.

Yep, I thought I was being careful but ended up pinching and cutting two wires. A new $30 harness and I was back in business. Next time I'll be even more careful!!

Finally had time today to go back in the garage. Investigating the fuses I found that the 5A had blown. Before sticking a new one in I double checked the wiring and the tightness of the wires in the hand controls. I buttoned everything up and stuck the fuse in. Turned the ignition and everything lit up as usually. Bike ran great. Must have touched/crossed something when hooking everything up. Crossing my fingers there isn't an exposed wire in the bars that could short with vibration. Won't know till it happens. Thanks for the feedback.

Me too! Now I just need some good weather to ride some real miles with the new bars and to take some updated pics to post. These bars from Vindikta are a work of art...not so much when pulling wires but the outside is triple plated chrome and it shows.

Did you not disconnect your battery before starting the project?

Glad it was an easy fix.

Enjoy
