This is a strange debate as we are talking about a known issue that only has one resolution (new improved pump). So I guess "debate" is the wrong word.
And why an owner would pay out of pocket for ESP work is also strange. I can't wait for my second (original design) pump to fail so ESP can buy me a new improved one.

As a courtesy to the OP and for those following the thread, especially for those of us who are on phones, it would be great if you would start a new thread for your issue rather than piggy-backing onto another ongoing thread. Thanks!

Update!

Put new M8 kit into my ride. All looking 100%...
Took apart existing pump,
Here is what I found...

Pump just taken apart, with burr visible top left case, just above center of pump

Its hard to see, and didnt notice untill I wiped fluid out with my finger. The burr may have been causing the intermittent problems.
Im not sure how much force the impeller has on start, but cant imagine this doing any good ever...

burr found in pump, just next to torx bit..

Than, I remove the cover off the back...

contact separation on factory terminal

You can clearly see just above my pointer finger the factory terminal, POS crimp connection is wide the hell open.

5 years and 27,000 miles is bs. this is something that shouldnt happen at any point in the pumps life.
Im gonna write the MOCO a pissed off letter. I want my M8 upgrade pump comped!!!

While this is really the only thing that has happened in that time, and I love my limited, I understand crap happens on any production line.
Thing is, they must know something went wrong on the production line and shouldnt have. We should not have to shell out more of anything
to cover this

Agreed ! The customers should not have to pay for poorly designed pumps.

That terminal has been the Achilles heel of every pump failure that has been posted on this forum.

technically, the only thing that the op would have been out would have been his $50 deductible since he has esp. i'm sorry, i don't see the moco comping you cause you chose to fix something on your dime rather than use your warranty.

The point is someone is paying to replace a substandard component that had issues from the very beginning and that shouldn't have had this issue in the first place. The proof is that H-D switched to a completely different part manufactured by a different company. They knew the part was a problem and they knew it would continue to be a problem.

Not everyone could afford the ESP when they bought their bike either.

Currently having my pump replaced at the dealer, I specifically asked for the new pump and he stated that's all they had, they keep plenty on hand, IMO this should have been a recall as anyone can become stranded at a high cost when it is all said and done.
