Default Bar position question

OK I do not want to do apes as I like the height of the stock bars. My question is how do I get more backward reach towards me. If I had a little (1 1/2" to 2") more reach I would sit up more straight in the saddle and not lean forward as much. This is ok on short rides but long rides my back strains. Any suggestions would be great..

Cheers,

I didn’t have any luck rotating my stock bars. What worked for me was to replace the stock bars with H-D Reach bars, 2” up and 2” back. The pain between my shoulder blades magically disappeared after installing the new bars.

can I ask how tall are you? They say ideal for riders 5’1” to 5’5” and I’m 5-11

Gain access to handle bar clamps: remove outter fairing, remove switch/dash panel cover, lift up and rotate inner fairing forwards. Loosen handle bar clamp bolts. Adjust bars to where you want them. Snug handle bar clamp bolts. Carefully turn bars fully left and right to ensure bars do not contact tank. Tighten front handle bar clamp bolts until clamp touches. Tighten rear handle bar clamp bolts 22-26 ft/lbs.

5’8” on a good day. The reach bars were a miracle for my upper back pain on long rides, but I’m not completely satisfied with the wrist angle. Not so disappointed that I need to swap bars again, but it just goes to show that every time you change one aspect of ergonomics it changes something somewhere else. Good luck!

2" up and 2" back are just that from stock, it doesn't really matter about the intended use from the Mothership...its just a dimension from stock. Its really about what fits you. These 518's for the 2014-up from Khromewerks are what I picked up for mine, many will recommend the 519's for the 2009-2103's and have said they still fit the newer models. I got them to try because of the same complaint on the wrist angle of the "Reach" bars...hope to install soon...

Just installed 2+2 sweepers on someone’s 2012 FLHTK. On my 08, I used +2 sweepers. As others stated, either the +2 sweepers or even 2+2 would work well for you. The +2 is stock height but 2” closer to you. Just waiting on the sidecar clutch cable and the 2+2 install will be complete.

Would a seat that puts you closer to the bars work? Do you have a backrest on your current seat?
