Camera
so for one ride one pass, what size memory card we talking?
will a camera run continuously for say 5hours on one set of batteries?
From what I see most Vloggers trust the camera mounts on the bikes to hold onto the cam, its the side of the road shots that always puzzled me....especially when there is 'supposedly' only one person riding and shooting the clip.
They'd have to set the cam up....ride back down the road, turn around, back up the road into shot....and then double back again to pick their equipment up (if its still there). Can see me having the patience when I just wanna ride into the sun all day.
2hours straight! wow. agan, how much storage memory?
one day I'll put Yosemite on my places I've ridden map
I've dabbled with iMovie and mastered a few editing skills to make some fun clips.... so I think I could cobble something together, just don't really want to be the next Spielberg or spend hours doing computer things with drives and drives of data.
totally agree with you on the spend more time living it than recording it.
I've had a digital camera since 2001 (Canon IXUS) in fact I still have it and like to use it from time to time. But phones take such a better picture these days.
but same logic applies, I like to experience the day rather than snap photos all the time
cheers
I mount my GoPro on the bike for the view I want for that ride... one ride, one view, one pass.... I'm trying to capture moments & experiences for me and a select few others... I'm never trying to make a movie for all to see..
I turn it on and off, but I usually leave it on for a good amount of time... say a minimum of 30 minutes or so... When I rode through Yosemite solo one time, it was on for the entire trip through the park... from the West entrance through Tioga Pass... That was a couple hours I believe...
As far as security goes, I DO have a safety cable attaching my GoPro camera housing to the bike, in case the mount should fail...
I used to use GoPro Studio software from GoPro... it was pretty easy to use and I got pretty good at editing, combining, and saving snippets of movies I had taken... Then they stopped supporting that software... I have shot only a few short movies since, and just saved them as is, I haven't found another editing software I want to use.. I mostly have my wife, on the back, shoot stills now... far less complex and time consuming... especially now that I would need to learn a new software.. I'm not against tech, just not super savvy with it, or have the motivation to dive into another editing software...
Bottom line for me is that the movies/pics can be really cool to share and look back on, but they are, in my opinion, a far second the the experience of riding my bike to, and through, various places of my interest .....
I did a lot of riding before digital cameras and movie cameras.... those experiences and sights are forever saved in my mind... as are all my rides...
Long Ride Shields (LRS) Flat top recurve...
I haven't purchased form them in awhile.. The switched ownership a few years ago and I heard rumors of higher prices, lower quality, and that their customer service has gone downhill.... but no recent experience with them..

I have a 64GB card in my GoPro Hero4 Silver...
I have done 3 hrs, don't think I've tried to go longer.... don't remember how full the card was...
I remember I selected a less memory intensive resolution and the medium, instead of wide view...
As for battery power.... I can't say.. I know I have the ability to hook my goPro to a USB charger that goes to my cigarette ighter.. I believe I plugged into that any time I just let it run on its own..
When my wife holds it, she gets a bunch of video, but I can't say how long for sure... She turns it on... then off... then on again... total battery power..

FWIW... I bought a remote for my GoPro... I used it to start and stop the camera when I was riding, filming solo..
You could set up your a GoPro for still shots, mount it, then use the remote to take the pics... that way you don't have to handle the actual camera and possibly move/loosen it in the mount....

Have handle bar mount, helmet mounts and mic adapter for helmet. Only complaint is battery life. Three batteries usually gets me through the average riding day.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I also have a DJI pocket that is super convenient.
