Actually, no to the last statement. All manufactured goods have fixed and variable costs associated with them. There is a certain amount of overhead (fixed cost) that has to be met whether you manufacture one motorcycle or one million such as lease payments, insurance and interest.. All the labor and raw materials, etc make up variable costs. Imagine your rent is $1 million per year. That million has to be spread across all the motorcycles you build. Build 10,000 motorcycles, fixed cost is $100 per bike ($1,000,000 divided by 10,000). If you only build 1,000 motorcycles, however, the fixed cost component is $1,000 per bike ($1,000,000 divided by 1,000). So even if you could keep your labor and raw materials per bike cost constant, your total cost per bike to manufacture 1,000 would be $900 more than if you built 10,000. It's a balancing act for the manufacturer.
I've always put it a little differently. The first car off the assembly line cost about a billion dollars to make. The second one cost about $30K.
Current Harley Davidson Dealer Inventory Shortages (06/2022)
Does anyone have any idea when US Dealerships will start receiving New Harley Davidson Inventory?
I've searched (4) local dealerships on the West Coast and none of the dealerships have received any new stock on 2022 Street Bobs or the new Lowrider S and ST models.
It's frustrating when you are eager to purchase one and nobody has them..
Super high demand coupled by silicon chip issues and supply chain issues seems to be a huge impact .
As soon as the price they will bring reaches the point the CEO wants. The supply will be there. But only at the price he sees fit and his goal was $40,000 touring bike base price.

I'm certainly not a conspiracy person, nor do I believe the shortages are "fake news"....
But it only takes a few moments to look around and see that there are many individuals, businesses, and organizations who are manipulating the current issues to their benefit...
I shouldn't be surprised... it's been done since man has been drawing on cave walls...

From what I see in my area, the primary dealership inventory consists of mainly those higher priced 34 - 40k Touring Bikes.
So there doesn't seem to be a huge problem with supply of those. My question was pertaining to the lack of inventory of low rider S, ST and Street Bobs and other models.
It is inevitable that with high demand that most dealerships will try to capitalize off of this and add extra markup. But at this point they are having problems receiving new bike inventory.... I was just asking if anyone on this forum had any insight as to when distribution may pick up again.
Stopped at a local dealer Upstate on the way home from a recent road trip. Was looking at one of about 3 Touring bikes they had on the floor. Salesman comes over, we talk, he gives me his sales pitch and we talk about inventory (or LACK of inventory). He says the Motor Company has a new CEO and his plan is to restrict inventory in the hopes of driving up cost and profits on new bikes ala the 80's and 90's, the OVER MSRP thing. I tell him that to replace my '14 Limited with a new one right now would bring me in around $40K, how much higher does he want the prices to go? He just shrugs his shoulders and smiles ...not sure if all that is true or not but one thing I am sure of, I'll hold on to my '14 for now!

Hello IUOE ROB.... Thanks for sharing your feedback..
If this is true, sounds like they need to get rid of this CEO as this business plan sounds sounds like it will do nothing but hurt Harley's reputation and greatly limit their sales.
It doesn't make any sense to purposely restrict inventory, just to drive up costs..

At what point does this "inventory shortage" get resolved?
I have a part on order now - cruise control kit - for over a year now. Dealer tells me I'm number two of six who are in the same boat. Same part being used on new Softails, not scheduled to be 'in stock' until this coming October?!?!?! Second riding season without it.
Prioritizing profits of whole bike sales over the pre-paid parts sales is my opinion. At least it's not stopping me from riding. GRRRRRRR....
My dealer has like 10 street glides and literally 0 road glides. Like wut??
I went and test rode a street glide but I like the look of the road glide more. So they said they are going to try to get one asap so i can try it out. The regular orders they have are 3 weeks out. They said they will try to get one from another dealer sooner than that.
Anyway, anxious to get my 2021 road glide standard and post a pic here!
One issue I had on the street glide was when you start from a stop at a light, sometimes I seemed to almost veer to the right into another lane briefly when starting up. Like any tips on clutch and throttle control to stay straight? I have only been on softail standard at most and usually smaller than that.
The BIKE is not the cause of your veering to the right...
