That pipe has some issues..... it sure looks to me like it's been "customized"...

It has one bung in the 18mm location (the one high on the head pipe) and one bung in the 12mm location (the one down by the collector).... That makes no sense to me... I've never seen a pipe with the O2 sensors in different locations. They are usually in the same head pipe location (or very close)...

I've changed pipes on my two twin cam touring bikes, and three friend's twin cam touring bikes... I have never seen a pipe with O2 bung positions like that for a Twin Cam.

I'm not a tech, not an expert, and certainly not an exhaust engineer... but that just doesn't look right to me... even if those bungs are the correct size for your OEM sensors, I'd be skeptical of using it...

I would contact the manufacturer of that exhaust. I'd send them that pic and ask if that was the way that pipe was manufactured before I would even attempt to use it...

Just an FYI.....

I have a couple spare OEM 12mm sensors and a couple 18mm sensors. The 18mm are wide band sensors for tuning, but fit in the aftermarket pipes I have with two sets of bungs....

I just checked both sensors...

The 12mm O2 sensors have 12mm x 1.25 threads

The 18mm O2 sensors have 18mm x 1.50 threads...

Additionally, I found a pic of an aftermarket Harley exhaust on the internet that has both the 18mm O2 sensor port location and 12mm O2 sensor port location, just for your reference..

I will send them a pic, and finding out for certain, but this is a screen shot of the install instructions that V &H sent me on these pipes.

Notice the bungs are in the same place as mine. Very odd though, I agree. The ones on my OEM are side by side.

Maybe since these pipes only have one set, they positioned them this way? The pipes do not look like they

As mentioned, I will send this pic to them and see what they were modified. The collector portion is where I did the welding so that was not from the factory.

Other than that, I have no idea why they are not co-located.

I stand corrected..... Forgive my skepticism.... When I read that the pipe had been welded, and saw what I thought were mismatched sensor bung locations, I was worried the pipe may have been "customized"...

If that pic is from the the install instructions, It appears that is how that pipe is designed, and the sensor bung holes are properly placed.....

I am going to save that pic. I've never seen that before, and I am always willing to learn... Obviously, Vance & Hines know a lot more about exhaust design and construction than I ever will...

If those bungs have 12mm x 1.25 threads (as I now suspect they do) you are good to go... !

I have used two Vance & Hines exhausts over the years and like their exhausts.... I've found them to have good build quality, good fit and finish, and they have performed well on my bikes..

Enjoy....!

Vance n Hines confirmed, thru email, this morning, those positions are normal. Said it provides optimal tuning in those positions. So now just need to order the parts I need and get it on there.

No, it was me that welded, at the weld points, were in the crossover area, that had cracked open. These are the before and after shots. It belonged to my wife's cousin. He and his wife, rode from WA to meet me in MT for the Beartooth Rally, this July. He discovered this on his bike just two weeks before departure date. I tried to get him to have it welded, but he decided to just buy new. So I said, save the old one and I will take it off your hands, when we come up in the RV in August, which we did. Thats how I got the header, and shields, but no brackets.
