Default Thermostatic "snap switch" of Wards

Not sure why they need two switches...
Snap switches were prone to failure (Jason was working on that point) so the toggle switch was in place to actually shut the fan off being that it was wired to the battery. Otherwise relying on a failed or failing snap switch could render a dead battery.

The MM fans don't have a thermostat switch, just the toggle switch on the fan housing.. I mentioned Jason's thermostat control, because he offered the toggle switch and the option for an additional thermostat switch.. I didn't understand the need for LJ to offer a second manual switch with their product... ?

I have a copy of Jason't letter about the switch issue. It was actually just a minority of the switches that had problems. His letter starts with:
"Ok, I’m laying it out there clean for everyone to digest and make an informed decision that best suits their needs. Most importantly the vast majority of users are not having issues, but the small number of reported problems is still more than I am willing to accept, I want the best performance possible for my customers so I am seeking a better solution."

I bought a set of Jason's fans in 2013. His first thermostat "creep" switch, which he eventually replaced with the thermostat "snap" switch, lasted through ownership of my 2012 Limited, so I put the fans/switch on my 2016 Ultra Classic that replaced the 2012. That original thermostat creep switch finally died 9 months ago... That's almost 9 years.... I'll call that acceptable..

I bought one of Jason's newer thermostat snap switches to have a spare... He sent it to me free, but I paid him for it anyways...

His newer thermostat snap switch has been working well for these last 9 months...Since Jason closed shop, I found a source for a very similar switch and temp range. I bought a couple so I will have spares if his newer switch should fail... but even here in the SoCal heat, both the thermostat switches he spec'd and sold have been doing real well for me...

I've got them and love those things in these Louisiana summers! I just wired them to the battery.

Actually the LG on my bike, when running 80 mph, drops the engine temp by 35 degrees and the oil temp by 20 degrees. I monitored the engine temp on the Fuel Pak FP3 app, and the oil temp with a mechanical temp gauge in the dipstick. Running sustained high speeds in the summer can get the motor hot enough to cause the ECU to start retarding the timing. The LG is going to keep the temp below that threshold.
My experience watching engine temps - below 40 mph temps climb quickly the slower you go. 40 to 60 mph the motor is as cool as it’s going to get. Above 60 mph the temp starts to rise again. By 80 mph the engine is as hot as when putting around at 20 to 30 mph.
Trikes run 20-30 degrees hotter than bikes. More load and less effective airflow.

I bought them about five years ago on eBay... I couldn't find the exact ones I bought, but they were pretty cheap, from China, and so I bought like four...

I got them normally open, and closing at 85° C...

Here's a search page with several that are similar to the ones I got. I believe the one's I got were "KSD9700 Temperature Switch Thermostat, normally open. 85° C"

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...itch&_osacat=0

I found the ones I bought, here... but the price went up a few bucks each, and they are out of the temp range we would want... but there are several good candidates on the page above..
