I like my Garmin XT GPS units. I also have a Garmin RV GPS in my truck.
I cannot rely on Android auto because it stops works frequently. Then I have to stop, reboot phone, reconnect and try again. And then do not know how long it will work.
I have free maps updates on my GPS units. And they are better than any dash GPS units I have seen. And I have friends with upper end cars that have electronic issues.

When I had my street glide I just installed a CarPlay adapter and was done. No messing around with or paying for software. Outer fairing came off, plug clips in, fairing back on. Plug phone into usb and done. Thats just one mans thoughts.

For you guys in the US with cheap cell phone rates I get it's cheaper to just use phone data. For me in Canada I would need to add about $500 annually to my cost to get enough data to use my phone. Updating it every five years or so is way cheaper for me. Plus it's more about updating the points of interests (gas, food, hotels) than it is about the maps.
Some of us in the USA travel to places where mobile data is not available. You can really tell who does and who doesn't by the GPS units they use.
