Default Check Engine Light

So, I installed my new bars today. Process seemed to go smooth, they fit great and much more comfortable. I checked all the functions of both side controls and all is well. The bike runs fine. I took a quick spin around the block and noticed the check engine light is on. I don't have a scanner. Is there a way to check codes without one? Any ideas what might be going on?

Just hold down the button for the trip odometer and turn on the ignition to get into diagnostic mode. Plenty of how-to videos on You Tube detail how to go through the whole process.

Yes there is......

I don't own an M8, so I don't know if the process changed for them, or for the new ECM introduced around 2021...

Someone will surely post up soon with the M8 procedure....

Thank you guys! I found a video on how to read codes. I found the following:
ECM
P2122h, P2127h

BCM
C0077h, b2106h, b2141h, b2146h

SPDO
U0141h
I also found a video on how to clear codes. I cleared them all and now I have no check engine light!

Glad you got it figured out...

Just for info, those are all historical codes as designated by the "h" at the end...

After a certain number of engine cycles, they would have cleared on their own unless they became current again... but it's always better to be able to control them...

Thanks for the clarification, I was wondering why "h" didn't appear when I searched the codes to see what they were for.

As already been mentioned all codes are historical (might have been triggered when you were disconnecting/reconnecting stuff). Try to clear them (hold trigger button while in code display mode and answer yes to clear specific module codes, continue to next module) and see if any codes come back.

Did you happen to remove the maxi fuse before you started?

The hand controls have modules that are always powered along with the BCM and ECM. It could be if you removed wires during the bar change the BCM saw them as errors.

No I did not pull the main fuse. I agree, the vast majority of the codes were related to things I unplugged and plugged back in. I didn't see any requirement to pull the fuse in the service manual, but I may have missed it. Also, the "How To" videos I watched did not pull the fuse. Not saying they did it right, just saying.

I pull it anytime I do work... just because. Don't know if that is a bad habit, but I have never had any codes.
