Central CA Motor Builders.........
Bike runs ok, but goes thru about 4-5 qts. of oil every 5,000 miles now. Didn't used to when newer. When the wife and I go for a trip in the summers, it's like a 50-60 day trip and we plan on doing another one this next summer. Hence, the concern about my aging motor. I REALLY don't want a breakdown on the road while we're on a trip. So, while the weather is sketchy here for the next few month, I've decided to do this rebuild and bump things up to maybe a 110" from my stock 103". Maybe larger, maybe smaller, I just want something with a little more pop BUT solid as a rock. I'll stay at 103" if that's what it takes to be trouble free for a long time.
The thought of buying the parts from someone like Fuel Moto and doing this myself has been in my head, back and forth, for a while. The issue is, I'm in the middle of a mini house remodel that I AM doing myself, so now, time is short for me to take this on. Plus, it's hard to get performance parts shipped to CA.
Which brings me to my question.......... who knows of a good motor builder in Central CA that can do this work and possible dyno tune with my TTS, or Power Vision, (because I have both available)? I'm going to stop by Chris Rivas' in Fresno, an hour away, and see what his thoughts are. I've had him do some smaller stuff on my bikes over the years, so he'll be my 1st visit. But just wondering if you guys know someone else in CA also? Maybe RC Cycles in Hayward? I had them do my TTS Dyno a few years back, but no wrenching. I'd go to Sacto/Bay Area or down towards SoCal if it's worth the ride.
Any input is welcome, good or bad!!
TIA,
MJ
I am in SoCal (San Diego area) and I have not found, or know of, a good dyno tuner. I tried one up in the LA area based on a recommendation, and he was a disappointment... I am surprised there are any Dyno Tuners left in this state, with the aggressive tactics CARB uses. CARB put the only good dyno tuner in San Diego that I knew of, out of business many years ago...
Having said all that, I have heard of RC Cycles in Hayward. It was a several years ago, but I read a few really good reviews on their work... I have always kind of kept that shop's name in my head as a possible future road trip for a tune. I do all my own engine work.
Good luck with your decision, let us know what you do and how it works out..
